Now you have to be a registered user to just view the forum?

I just tried to send a link twice to a friend who enjoys seeing some of the updates of my Frisco High Line thread. She was getting this message:

You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1.You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again.
2.You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
3.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
The administrator may have required you to register before you can view this page.

Really?

Things haven't changed. Non-registered people can only view the fora in the top section, anything from 'TS12' down is hidden to them. It has always been so. If they are images, why not send them by email.

The Screenshots forum used to be, and apparently still is visible to guests; I just checked the Who's Online page and saw some guests viewing the Screenshots forum or threads in it.

EDIT: Ed beat me to it (by some number of seconds)!

Correct. I used to share my thread in the screenshot forum with a few friends. So now they have to create a guest account?

Well, I just checked the thread you mentioned without logging into the forum and it loaded up fine for me without any request to login. Are you sure you didn't try sending a link to another page which requires logging in to view?

Hi,

The other day, I was playing with an iPad at the optometrist, which had one that you could use while you wait, and I went on the Forums. I could view the Mainline Discussion section and Screenshots, the country-specific part was unable to be accessed, and everything else, like the game-specific section was not visible. This was all while not logged in.

I'm not sure what is causing your problem, I just posted the above so that others could confirm that this is the normal activity when you ae not logged in or do not have an account.

Kieran.

...<snippage>...

If you still have a copy of the post you sent to your friend, might it be too much trouble to ask you to post the link to this thread?

The only exception in the Mainline section is the Suggestion Boxcar forum.

The following forums should be accessible for unregistered users:

Auran Announcements
General Trainz
Surveyors,Operators and Engineers
Trainz Community
Prototype Talk
Trainz Multiplayer Talk
Parts and Labour
Screenshots

Shane

EDIT: I'm beginning to wonder if the link is pointing to a thread in Freeware Announcements or Payware Announcements, as both of these contain screenshots, and both require login.

Is the user profiles accessible for non registered users? ~snip~

Yes, user profiles are visible to absolutely anyone who wants to look at them, registered or otherwise. That is why many members don’t disclose much of their personal information and only log the bare minimum.

Test this by going into the Forum without logging in. Click on a "users name">View profile where you can see their details.

However I have noticed in this “new” Forum that you can set up privacy rules which will suppress and limit viewable details by selected category of individuals.

Log in. Click Forum>Forum Actions>Edit Profile>Profile Privacy. You can then select one of four levels of privacy for seven different categories.

It works. Test it after making your changes by logging off and then going back into the Forum without logging in (as if you are a visitor). Click on your user name via member search or one of your posts. Select View Profile and you will only see what any guest, casual user or lurker can access.

As an example, have a look at mine. I have configured it so that very limited information appears to guest users.
