Not satisfied with Auran's Support .

You get out of a program what you put into it. Trainz is no different than many others in this respect. If someone doesn't know how to use the Internet or play a game, then they just bought a boat anchor.

On my box it says, "build and customize ..." which seems pretty clear to me that the possibility and potential for user input exists.

As for the computer power or rather the lack of same, who believes the minimum specs are enough to do more than just turn on the game?

Moin,

I have a long history of purchases from Auran. I will not be buying any new version of Trainz, no matter what impressive additions are promised. I object to them releasing new versions and going onto even newer versions without fixing the problems of the older ones. Sort of hits the loyalty factor in the head with a brick.

Hm, if all thinking as you, N3V must close the door because no one keep the new version.
But, if N3V are closed, who should fix the problems of the older versions?

The complaints coming in from users, at least the newer users, aren't about not knowing how to use the internet or gameplay. I suspect most folks learn how to use the internet as one of their first things when buying a computer or cellphone. The complaints are mainly about downloaded files that either don't work or are missing assets that are no longer available. Show me ANYWHERE in Trainz where it says you are required to play Sherlock Holmes and hunt down missing assets. That is something that is discovered by the user AFTER he can't get anything to work, and hopefully comes to the forum to find out why. Other complaints involve bugs that have been in Trainz since 2004. Some people prefer to call them "quirks" or "oddities", but that's just putting a smilely face on a crummy situation that hasn't been fixed.

Geez....so when N3V says build and customize it immediately leads you to the conclusion that you are going to hack into files? You really are geeked-up :hehe:
"Build and customize" could easily mean building a consist (no hacking required) and choosing a different loco to lead it. And instructions to do that are included in the game.

Good grief...you are REALLY stretching it by stating that what N3V puts on the box for system requirements is an outright lie and that it only means you can "turn on the game". I don't know of ANY other company that outright lies about specs required to run the game. And what about the system check at the beginning of the game to verify that you can run it? Is that also a lie? Just how many lies do you think N3V is telling? Do you also believe that Trainz is just a big swindle by N3V to get people to buy a product that actually won't run worth a dang on their computer? If you seriously think that, then I think a lot of folks are NOT going to buy the next version of Trainz based on those opinions.:(

Here's an example of a fairly modern loco I tried downloading. It's a Santa Fe Dash 9 in warbonnet colors. Naturally, it was missing all kinds of stuff and had a ton of error messages. This is the type of thing that turns off both new and old users of Trainz.

What does all this mumbo jumbo mean? It means when I go into Surveyor, the Dash 9 shows up in red and is unuseable. It also means I either spend the rest of the day fiddling around trying to MAYBE fix it or playing Sherlock Holmes trying to find missing assets that may or may not still exist, spend less time MAYBE finding one that actually works that is freeware, or search the payware folks to see if they have one. Of the three, I prefer the payware option.

Dep,

Rather than quoting the whole message...

This is not an Auran problem, but that of the original creator. These errors mean the original creator neglected to include the numbers for the auto-numbering system. There is a way to make this work and it's fairly easy, but to be honest, I've deleted objects with this many errors.

This is why Auran is pushing hard to make error-free content available on the DLS. This particular asset hasn't been updated yet, or so it seems this way.

I feel your frustration because this shouldn't happen, but it does. In the old days of TRS2004 and before, this would have been 'ignored' by the program, or better yet the program would have muscled its way through the defective asset. The end result would be poor performance and even a possible crash.

Auran created the software.
N3V took over.

N3V admits they just make the program and rely on creators for the content. To say a creator is wrong because of errors, you're half right. The publishers of the software allowed it.

Now, we have the versions under new management. They still cling to the DLS as a selling point but refuse to spend the time to repair content they deemed as full of errors. That is your job after the fact, not theirs as they sell that content or promise of it. Even now the community has to fix what the programers deem inefficient.

At some time, the sellers of this product have to take some responsibility of what they sell. The person who made an asset years ago, accepted by the program, is now on the hook since the programers changed their minds after the fact of letting the content on the DLS?

How can a company, who openly admits to relying on third party content to sell their product, blame the community because they changed the rules after the fact? Only they knew what would or wouldn't work, given the large amount of content on the DLS they use to sell the game. Hard to blame someone who built and uploaded something years ago that the DLS and program accepted.

For those with a long list of versions of this program, no sweat, right? Hate to be a new guy with his first edition. As far as where N3V wants to go, no problem. I would like to choose what content I wish to use. I know of the performance issues, does a new user know of the many errors he needs to correct? Not like the sellers of this program helped at all except blaming others for the content Auran accepted before changing the error parameters.

Why don't you help with this rather than whine incessantly on these forums?

Why don't you accept the fact some of us didn't pay for this program to do the work those profiting from it refuse to do. I didn't buy this program for the privilege of spending hours to fix it instead of using it for the purpose I sent this company money to use it for.

John: The frustrating thing is N3V reps on this forum saying that most of the screwed up content has been deleted or updated. That is a pure horse manure. Most of it is STILL on the DLS and STILL broken. I have only been able to download THREE locomotives that actually worked in TS12 after downloading them. I dunno...maybe it's just my bad luck. I don't win much when I go to Vegas either. :hehe:

I don't know how all these Trainz fans can say that everything they get off the DLS is magnificent and they never have a problem with it. Maybe they are just downloading TRS2004 files for TRS2004? I've done searches for Dash 9 locos with warbonnet paint schemes for TS12 and nothing comes up. So I guess it doesn't exist in payware either and I am just screwed. At this point, I am pretty much done with the DLS. The only really functional and worthwhile thing I've gotten off it is the Port Ogden route. The only real option for locos that work is payware. But there is a limited selection there.

On a brighter note...I did finally get my Dash 9 with the warbonnet paint on it. Just not in Trainz:) ...
