Norfolk & Western Streamlined cars?

I've recently acquired the N&W J-class locomotive, and wish to use it on a present-day route as a historical tourism train as they have been used in the 1990s and early 2000s (do they still run?) I haven't found any of the appropriate streamlined N&W cars though, and I can't even find any TRS2006 compatible heavyweight cars either. I've scoured the DLS and almost all of the freeware sites I'm aware of, and noone seems to have anything close to what I'm trying to find. I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide finding these.

Search DLS on username mcguirel. She reskinned a set of 4 N&W cars. There may be others available but that's all I know of.

Just checked - sorry they are TB2.9. Not sure why the others based on the same models are TB2.5.

I have that set of 4 heavyweights, they are a TS2010 model only as I've discovered since downloading them. I got all the dependencies but they don't show up in game.

Yes, I rechecked as per my edited post. If you already have the content I think you can just change trainz-build in the configs for the cars and the referenced bogey to TB 2.5. I was about to try this but I've got to run out and won't get to test it till later.

Good luck,

DLS Requirement - No other reason.

Thanks, should have guessed that from the date they were uploaded.

@Desert - they installed in TRS6 with 2 errors when I edited the Trainz-build to 2.4. You'd get the same error at TB2.5. Both are caused by same problem. It requires only the removal of one entry in a .texture file.

pull03_body\gatec_alph-gate_op.texture.txt

remove following line:
AlphaHint=semitransparent

Save and recomitted and it shows up in surveyor and driver.

I only looked at 1 car but they all should have same problem.

It didn't work. I removed the line from the .txt file, and then changed the TB to 2.5; nothing showed up in the railyard. Then I tried the TB at 2.4, and it still didn't work. Just to be sure, I loaded up Surveyor and attempted to place them, still with no luck.

Desert, sorry for not getting back sooner but I had to do a bit of testing to see why it worked for me the 1st time and then when I imported them a 2nd time it didn't - basically same result as you.

The difference was I edited the trainz-build tag from 2.9 to 2.5 before I imported them into TRS06 the 1st time the 2nd time I edited it after I imported it into TRS06. TRS06 apparently keeps track of the initial TB because I tried moving the actual content files into a TB2.5 asset and it worked fine but when I moved the files back into the original one with the edited TB it failed to show although no errors were displayed at anytime.

So I think the bottom line is you need to edit the Trainz-build tag to 2.5 before you import the content. I did it by opening it in TS10 for editing in explorer, changed the TB tag in the config and saved it. Without comitting the asset I closed TS10 cm3.3 and opened TRS06 cmp and imported the cars from the TS10 editing folders. At that point if you commit them in TRS06 you'll see the errors I noted above. They're easily fixed and the cars show after that.

So, bottom line I have to delete them from the game, and then open them outside of CMP? Or can I simply open them and edit in CMP like I did after I had installed them?(still deleting them first of course)

I'm not sure how to edit a .cpd file outside of CMP.

Desert, can't edit the cdp's but you can still do it in TRS06. After you install them open them (5 cars and 1 bogey) for editing with cmp. This will put them in separate folders under the editing folder. Copy these folders to a new location on your HD. Revert the open assets in cmp and then delete them. I'd also close out cmp and TRS06 as I had a few strange effects when I did it without closing them 1st.

Edit the configs and texture files in the copied folders.

Reopen TRS06 and in cmp import the edited cars and bogey from the copied folders and then commit them.

Everything seems to work ok after 2nd attempt when I closed the program after deleting them and then reopend and imported the edited files.

Good luck

Don't know what to say. I tried again by deleting them all in TRS06 and reinstalling and editing the TB2.9 versions as per above. They show up for me in Surveyor and work in driver. Trainz has a mind of it's own that's for sure.
