No More FREE Download Station?!

Piedmont Div. Conductor
I logged into the Download Station and tried to search for BNSF50's crossing gates and it says that I need a FCT. Since when did Auran decide it would be a good idea to make FCTs (First Class Tickets) mandatory to use the download station. As if paying for the Trainz Franchise Games wasnt enough. Why would I pay 12 dollars for 3 months access to what was freeware when I can go to Phil Campell's wesbite and order 2 very HQ locomotives for that price? I know that times are tough, but really? I have spent over $300 in TRS2006 payware and I was planning on releasing some of my prototypical routes, but that can't happen now because everyone will have to get a stupid FCT in order to get some of the dependant assets. I actually will not apolgize for sounding rude as this makes me highly angry. Now days it seems that all any company wants to do is dig deeper and deeper into your wallet. You make great games, Auran, but that doesn't mean that you should get on your high horse and start charging out the rear end. Hell, I can go to train-sim(dot)com and get FREE stuff for MSTS, so you may have just lost one loyal customer. Thank you Auran and have a lovely day.

:hehe: Oh no, please, another one on the queue. ;)

Please, guy, every of us have set our position on this topic on several threads spread out on the forums.

The only thing I can tell you (-not to sound iterative and lest the Prætorian Guard leaves the barracks and take swords upon you... and me again... :hehe:-) is redirecting you to the last one queuing for complaining (-fair complaint-) here --> http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=69780 .

Gather forces, guy, and do not spread out in myriads of threads. ;) Thank you.

N3V's policy is that TRS2006 or earlier owners are now former customers and if you want DLS access you either buy a later version (for limited free access) or purchase a FCT.

This has been debated to death and they are not going to change that policy over a handful of protests.

Bandwidth isn't free, it may not be as restrictive as 5 or 6 years ago but if you're racking up what probably amounts to terrabytes of data stream a month someone has to pay for that. It doesn't matter that it's freeware. Freeware refers to the licence and means the copyright owner makes no money from his/her work, doesn't necessarily mean there's no charge incurred in getting hold of it.

You mention trainsim.com. They also offer a limited free service but depend on the subscription service to cover the hosting. It wasn't so long ago it was virtually impossible to get in at Trainsim (or Flightsim.com), always getting the all nodes are busy. Even now you only get a 30 kbs transfer rate as opposed to 300kbs+ with an Auran FCT.

I'm sure others will be along to reinforce the above points but the simple fact remains, having bought a version of Trainz in the past does not pay anything towards the upkeep of the DLS currently. Their way, or the highway...

Ok. Thanks. I was just unsure as to if anyone else had noticed. I havent been around the DLS too much so it was hard to keep up with any changes that were made. You do bring up a very valid point as well. I still find it very inconvenient, but oh well.

I have no problem with having a ticket. Trainz is a bargain and hardly bank breaking for the hours of enjoyment available whenever you want. Auran also provide a good point for fans to download items others make. How much do we want to have for buying a train sim - everlasting free downloads and the cost covered by the company??! Ridiculous. Auran needn't have bothered doing the DLS. I can think of another traimnsim company that didn't bother doing what Auran does. It would be hard to find any hobby that an enthusiast doesn't want or need to spend money on.

What year did you purchase TR2006 ?

I paid $14.95 US in 2007 ... which was cheap.

I went to Taco Bell and ate $12.98 of Tacos, Gorditas, and Chalupas ...in one sitting, in just one night.

I went to Red Lobster and ate 127 Schwimps in one night, for $19.95 in one sitting.

I went to the theatre and saw the movie: "Unstoppable" for $8.50, and refillable popcorn and refillable soda pop was an additional $19.95 !

I paid $19 some odd dollars for a TRS2006 FCT .. and I will be doing it again in July 2011.

So for $34.00 I will have had 4+ years of enjoyment from Trainz ... and have a lightning fast download speed.

I will be purchasing 09 or 10 soon, as Auran has lifted the 1000 asset cap on the Black Pages DLS (which I love http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php).

This will be way of supporting Trainz financially.
KaChunk, KaChunk, KaChunk, Mooooooo !

(I'd post the thread zatovisualworks linked, but it's closed.)

But seriously, it finally works on this comp, and then I can't use it anymore? It doesn't matter how cheap--I honestly have no idea how to pay someone in any way other than actually meeting them and putting physical cash in their hand. ^^;

Unless you happen to be going by Australia:hehe: Then you could take a "Walk About" up to the Help Desk.
