Nice one AURAN/N3V, hehehe....

Well just to get back closer to topic. I will do this post just before my eyes really start hurting from looking at these new screens. Chris says we need to go see our doctor if you have problems viewing this. Well just phoned for my appointment. Darken it up a bit please.

Not to break in here again, and not to change topic direction.

i find nothing wrong this this design, i see it prefectly, and i don't see how it made you go to the doctor. there are so many other sites, with bright colour

my bet, is to replace the light blue with black (just my opinion)

For all you people nagging about colors, go here:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/nl_contrast.php

And tweak your monitor exactly right.
Then come back here again and see the difference.

There's nothing wrong with current forum colors.

Oh, it's in Dutch, sorry about that.
If you can't read it, search for an english page that does the same trick for you.

Like "test screen lcd displays"

Tweaking your monitor on this site only makes it viewable on this site. It messes with the rest of the sites I visit then. Instead of pure, blinding white, I suggest a muted grey of a base page.

Please turn down the brightness

I’ve tried the contrast colour bar tests posted in Richarde57’s link.

My monitor resolves all seven of them, and all of the bar sub divisions 1-32, perfectly.

I was using Surveyor when the Forum came back on line just after midnight UTC last night. The contrast between the less intense Trainz screens and the Forum were very marked.

The ratio of dark to bright is now very different in the Forum. Switching between Trainz and the Forum was never noticeable with regard to brightness. Now it’s as if a flat neon tube has been switched on when going into the Forum.

Small, thin fonts on a practically white background might work with tightly packed spreadsheet tables and file lists (squint and they look grey), but that mix doesn’t work with Forum messages where the visible clear area of the background is generally predominant. Squint and you get a bright flat panel of unwanted light.

Daylight viewing makes it slightly easier, but it’s still bad. I’m not looking forward to the dark side tonight. :(

Thicker font and a darker background please N3V.

(Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the forum changes. This is just my personal opinion.)

The new forums are using pretty much the same colour scheme that nearly every other standard computer program uses these days. I won't get into whether it's visually nicer than the old layout, but I can say that if you're getting headaches from this colour scheme, then you should probably consult a doctor and get their advice on changing your computer settings (brightness, contrast, windows theme, resolution, etc.) to better suit your eyes. I know what it's like to get eyestrain from a particular working environment, and believe me when I say that it's better to do something about it.

kind regards,

chris
I was coincidentally at the doctors while the forums were offline, my vision is fine. I can perceive all colors and words/numbers within normal parameters, meaning I have 20/20 vision. Now that it is daylight outside here it is tolerable looking at this website, but wait until night falls and it will start all over again.
Changing the brightness and contrast may work for this website, but then go onto another website and you will have to change it all over again to view that site.....May have something more to do with the fact that it is just to bright to view when the sun goes down..Perhaps I will go around and turn every single light on in the house tonight and see if that changes things LOL.

The best tool you can have is a piece of paper and keep a handwritten log of every setting you change on your PC.

I am presuming you have a PC (not a MAC, or tablet) ?

I can tell you exactly how to change the Tools/Colors/Fonts/Accesability ... and how to turn them back to default with just 3, or 4 clicks in PC Tools.

Are you PC literate ? I don't wanna' mess up you settings, and have 30,000 people all ticked off (Cascade: You messed up all my color/font settings) ... but it is really easy to change, and change back to default.

I am a PC Dummie ... I used to be a real dim bulb (15 Watt Candelabra) ... now I iz a fart smeller:hehe: I mean: smart feller

we're missing what version people have reigstered. Is there a way to tell or is that a work in progress again? :)

Definitely needed. At least that was a start when anyone started a thread about something going wrong. Without any indication, time can be wasted trying to find out which version. The timeline was a cool idea but even just a simple horizontal text list of registered versions would suffice.

If you are talking to me, then yes I am PC literate. Computer Tech for 3.5 years now:). So I know how to change all those settings already.
However they will help on this site greatly as you have already showed us. BUT it will ruin it for other websites making have to go back to the default settings, then when I want to view this site I then have to do it all over again. Sure it is simple enough to do, but annoying after about the 40th time of doing it I reckon...
Perhaps I will setup my laptop next to me to strictly view Auran...so when I go out into the world with my laptop people will think I am almost legally blind with the massive font and black background...:hehe:
Then keep my desktop as is so I don't have to keep changing the settings.

For my part, rather than mess with the settings I like everywhere else, I'll just get a pair of these.

Why not just provide an option for the webpage (as many sites have) to change the colour for yourself by help of a cookie. Like being able to change it to blue, black, green, red, whatever the user wants. Like a "personalization" feature?

And, about last nights (or mornings) posts, I was drunk. Forgive me about those.

Yo!

There must be someone with a screenshot of the OLD forum colors.

When you can find any please post it here, then we all can see the difference (if there is any).

Keep it fair, don't mess with it before posting!

:p

I have just come back from the pub after 3 pints and the colours are too intense! My eye's are now burning and after 3 minutes I have a headache. Well done N3V.

I adjusted my video display color to a more warmer, more contrasting scheme ... and it helped somewhat ... type is still Gray.

With My PC/Tools/InternetOptons/Color/Font adjustments I have a warm medium Gray background, with pitch black bold type.

If anyone wants to learn how to do it ... PM me.

I'll be right over and we'll go have a Yard, or two ... YUM !

I'll bring Yeungling, Iron City, Straubs & Rolling Rock and take the laptops to the pub.

Hi N3V, thanks for the improvements. Could you add a Color ''Font'' selectable tab so we could get rid of the blinding white please ? Also, to me, the direct link tab to the DLS was important as I use it almost every time I come to the forum.

Some aspects will be white and not visible in the Forum toolbar like font, color, insert picture ... but you can still read them by hovring over the whited out space.

Also the blinking line cursor is hard to see or invisible.

Better than nothing ... better than blinding
