Nice one AURAN/N3V, hehehe....

Hi,

thanks for all your feedback so far! We're taking note of all the things being brought up and we will be tweaking a lot of things to get them just right. If you notice a feature that was really important to you on the old forums that's missing here, be sure to let us know.

PS: We're looking into the performance issues, we realise the speed isn't as you all expected and we'll sort it out in time. Thanks for understanding.

Regards,
Charles

Hello Charles, you appear to be new here. Welcome on board!
Are you the guy administrating the forums now? if so, we've compiled quite the list of bugs & missing features here:

Well, it's good to see the forum back, but I'm like many others in that it's just way too bright for me. I liked the look of the old forum better, but I wasn't happy when they changed the forums to that awful TC red format.

I'm not sure how we're supposed to tell what versions of trainz that a member has without the station list. Is there a plan to bring in some sort of registry to let us know that someone actually has a registered version?

I'll take a look around now and see what I like or don't like.

Mike

I have tried everything, I am wearing Blue Blocker Gold tinted Sunglass's ... installed a gold/dark tinted coffee table glass in front of the blinding white screen ... and dialed the zoom up to 200% to be able to read the thin black type, and the pale power blue type.

Way too bright ... If anything this new color scheme/type will drive people away from reading the forum.

I just be tempted to stop reading the forum completely, as it is so hard on the old eyeballs ... I'll be back to post screenshots .. when I do return.

The pages used to take 0.02 sec to refresh ... now they take anywhere from 8 to 20 seconds to refresh.

The type is not even BLACK ... it is GREY
BLACK
GRAY
BLUE

The Pink and Blue Enveloupe symbols are very large and distracting to the eye.

is all amerika people like this? "fun to post first forum"??

i not be rude but i wonder why train fanatic only care about trains? :S

This is really hard on my eyes. This is worse than Denny's restaurant when they painted the interior pepto pismo purple with redish brown trim. They did that on purpose to keep people from hanging around too long after they finished eating. What was so wrong with the forum format before??

most Americans dislike change. they will hoot and holler, scream and shout, (and these days even sue); because they someone decided to change something. However I will put my money on the fact that in a day or two they folks complaining so much will get used to the new forum and forget about their fights (and find something new to complain about). It's the American way?

well primarily, they were running on a very old version of the forum software & it needed updating. The current theme however is very similar to the default. I would not be surprised if they just tweaked the banner a bit to match their logo & that is all.

If they had kept with the old theme they would have had to re-code it entirely which would have cost them money. and we probably wouldn't have seen the forum back up until mid July.

Exactly. I was mentioning in another thread that Auran ran a really, really old version of vBulletin. The older versions worked great - they even had a functional search feature - but had major security problems and regularly got hacked. I have a feeling the seemingly-increasing bot spam might have had a bit to do with the upgrade.

Unfortunately, spambots can even post to newer versions of vB, but the newer versions are generally more secure in all other respects.

The only gripe I have with the newer versions of vB is that the maker seems absolutely, totally uninterested in fixing the awful, long-broken search feature.

Well sorry peter but when it actually hurts your eyes to read, and can give you a headache after 10 minutes or so IT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. I can live with the rest of the changes, in fact they look nice and promising, but when my and other people's health can get impacted by a forum on the internet, it is a sign that it needs to be changed. It is not like they can't do it, it takes 5 minutes to do. All they really need to do is change the background color to something other then the whitish color with a darker one, and change the default color of the text.

Or enable another theme that is darker...I don't get what is so hard about clicking a few buttons and checking a few check to allow the forum more then 1 theme, doesn't have to be 4 themes...Just two..a light...and a dark one...simple. Then let the person decide which is easier on the eyes...For me...dark is easier on the eyes, hence why TCRs default theme is rather dark, but others find that hard on the eyes, so we have a lighter theme as well, and then a mix of others thrown in so people can have a selection, people like choice, not being shoved down a narrow alley along with 5000 other people.

IMHO I love this auto save feature while posting...just saved my arse....

A white screen with subtle tone changes isn't what causes most people headaches on screens. It's when you have extreme contrasting colors that you find your getting a headache. You sure it isn't something else giving you this "headache".

Peter I am sure. Its from looking at this forum. I switch away and stay away from it..magically it goes away..shocking how that works. I go back to here, and wow...it comes back after a few minutes.

I went into PC Tools/Colors and Accesability and changed colors to a Gray background with Black type and ignore webpage colors. It is much more pleasing ... but this effcts all other webpages ... So don't attempt it unless you know all about re-setting colors back to default.

vBulletin used to have a feature that allowed you to change colors. It was called Themes. It's possible Auran needs to enable that feature. It's also possible the vB makers took it out; the newer versions seem to be a major step backwards in many respects.

Okay Charles, I'll take you up on that. I would really like to have some kind of system to indicate what versions a member has registered. Personally I liked the old station stops, but find I need something. I'm not going to go handing out free advice to people that may have a pirated version. It's a waste of my time and your money.

It apears that System or Arial is the type that the forum is using ... myself, I am partial to Arial Black as it is bold and easy to read.

I like a Dark Gray webpage backgound, and Light Gray as a visited site (as it resembles grayed out effect).

I previously did like the Trainz version markers next to members names.

Which do you like ?

Theres a Firefox addon that allows you to change the style of forums like this. But I have no idea what it is called. :P So useless post anyhow.

ok 1st about the fonts. Arial Black, is not a websafe font. While it is listed & usable on websites; you still need the font installed to see it. And not everyone has Arial Black. However everyone with a web browser has the core websafe fonts.

now about your mock-ups, what is the difference between the current theme & your 1st mock-up?
your second theme does not fit with the companies identity at all. part of the process of making a website is making it fit with the companies identity. Solid mid-tone colors are very difficult to use as a background. In your 2nd mock-up; the Bold Black font smooches together, with the grey not helping it, making it difficult to read anything. and in turn the light grey is to close to the medium grey to be readable. Sure Gandalf will claim it no longer gives him magical lightning fast headaches. However no one will be able to read anything; making the forum entirely pointless.

PS: forgot to mention that your grey mock-up looks like it came out of the early 90s, was it made in MS Word?

I must admit, that this design is wonderful and I am impressed with the hard work Auran and N3V Games spent redesigning the forums and I will say without a shadow of a doubt, they have done one heck of a job. Three cheers for Auran and N3V Games! Hip Hip Hooray!!! Hip Hip Hooray!!! Hip Hip Hooray!!!

This wasn't on the old forums, but I'd really like to turn off that "friend request" gizmo. No one should be personally offended, but I don't do that facebook crap, and I dislike being placed in a situation where I have to deny friend requests because I can't just opt out of that system.

I like all you guys that come here regulary, but my friendships don't start with pushing a button. Trust me; I'm a miserable person anyway, and you don't really want to be my friend!:hehe:

Change please

I did really appreciate that a post showed the versions someone had.

2 good reasons to have that information:
- Half the morrons just posts support questions in general and then at least you had some sort of an idea to what version the question was related
- I prefer to know that people have at least 1 version of the game legally before I give an answer to one's question.

If that is to much to ask since it requeres some custom coding, then at least switch the order in which the forums are shown around so that general is below all the version support forums so there is at least a bigger chance of those topics ending up in the right forum before people reach general.
