Nice one AURAN/N3V, hehehe....

White is just a little blinding.
And I think that the "Sticky" envelope could be a different colour so we can see where the daily threads start.

Actually, there are are a few new smilies... <snip>

Really? I only see the same ones that were there before. The "thumbs down", "clap", and "thumbs up" smileys were there before.

As some others have posted, the Trainz version timeline is gone. Hopefully they'll bring that back soon. Given that the forum has just re-opened, I suppose that it's not surprising that there are some bugs.

Here I am typing this post in the Quick Reply box; maybe that part's not so bad after all.

As far as the new colors, so far, I don't really mind them. That could change.

Regards,

Zachary.

A few immediate observations:

The time line has disappeared – great for the egalitarians.

...
but it will also slow down helping others since there is no quick reference to know what version they are at. Alright for those who add it to their signature or under their avatar but those most likely to ask will not usually have this configured either.

Forum performance has really taken a step back. Clicking any navigation button and there is a visible delay stretching to several seconds before there is reaction. :(

Far too much white space. My trifocals are trying hard to compensate, but it just blinds me. When I look away, I see negative images all over the walls. AHHHH, they're closing in!!!

It’s now only possible to review members’ details when logged in. Good move! I thought it was far too public with the old system.

Posting images is a bit messy. The small edit box fills with the completed image rather than the code making it a bit difficult the place any surrounding text.

The pale blue type does seem a bit bright. Isn’t the background “white” also a lot brighter? I thought the paler blue old screen background was a bit less intense. I can foresee late night headaches with looking at the screen for long periods. Google search screen has the same effect, but at least you don’t spend too long with that one compared with Forum use.[/QUOTE]

I found with my forum when I switched from a dark theme to a light theme I got a lot of critisim right off the bat that it was "hurting peoples eyes" that there wasn't enough contrast, etc. However given a day or two on the new theme most people complaining came back saying that they actually liked the new theme better.

I do wonder how you all who claim that it's to white survived, its really only a fairly recent thing to have dark websites (starting around the fad of MySpace). But before then most sites were white, most programs were white (or shades of). And now the My_ is finally dying off the web is reverting back to white. Your saying that you can't stand writing documents in Word; You can't stand most websites; You dislike working in surveyor, etc?

peter

PS: I think that's 1st rant on the new theme. :hehe:

PPS: I do agree the forum does seem a lot slower. It took the servers a good 2 seconds to put a smiley into my message when I clicked on it.

Yes, it is nice to be back. I for one don't mind the "white" screen as I tend to be in dimly lit rooms either at home or school so the extra light is welcomed. Now I'll stoke the fires and build up a head of steam and see what this forum can do :p

This is a bit different than the old forums, but I'll get used to it. The speed could be a lot better though. It feels like I'm using an old '386!

This might be a double post...

Zec's told the powers that be about the speed. However we both recon it due to the number of people logged in. A few mins ago it was around 240; normally it's around 30-40.

Speed

I too have noticed the forums are quite slow and for some reason when I try to search for posts from a particular user it doesnt work and if you look on a profile it incorrectly shows the latest post to be 2 years ago.
the white is a little blinding and the forum doesnt seem to be as polished or customized as the old one

At last....it's back. Now I can stop drinking all those 'Bundies' I needed to fill in the spare time over the last few days. ('Bundies' - Bundaberg dark Rum, an Aussie icon.)
I like the clean, fresh look; personally I thought the old blue theme was dated. I had enough of "blue-grey" in the navy. Now to suss out the other "improvements".

I miss the semaphores, they were a nice touch linked to the subject manner. When I see all those envelopes I feel like I'm on an insurance site.

vBulletin's native search functionality is notoriously bad and has gotten MUCH worse with the newer versions. It's almost entirely non-functional on some boards going as far back as 3.5.2; the only partial workaround is to go to Google and enter the site name and search terms. I'm not sure how easy it is to fix either because some of the other sites of which I am a member have supposedly tried with no luck.

The semaphores are still there, Ed, where they always have been: on the forum index page. The previous software had envelope icons in the thread lists, just like the current software, except the old envelop icons were smaller.

So you are right. Are you using Firefox, or another browser? I swear when I was at home the semaphores were not showing, but at work they do. The Top button is working using I.E. as well. I guess I need to install FF 10 and hope for the best.

I use Internet Explorer 8, Ed.

For what it's worth, I had retrieved the semaphores and smileys out of my Temporary Internet Files folder (except for the "thumbs down" smiley, which I did not find) to save them in case the new forum had different smileys, etc.

EDIT: Oh, and as others have posted, it does seem that the new forums are slower. :(

Zachary.

Hi,

thanks for all your feedback so far! We're taking note of all the things being brought up and we will be tweaking a lot of things to get them just right. If you notice a feature that was really important to you on the old forums that's missing here, be sure to let us know.

PS: We're looking into the performance issues, we realise the speed isn't as you all expected and we'll sort it out in time. Thanks for understanding.

Regards,
Charles
