What it must of been like to have a full commuter train behind you as the prime mover screams! That air whistle is pretty cool, sad that it isn't around anymore though!

:wave: That was one great video to Watch, Looking at the intricate yard tracks, :mop:gives me a lot of Ideas to tool around with:mop:, and when they crossed under the low bridges, good night, didn't look like a lot of Clearance there!

:confused: Interesting to me, the Signal lamps set so far off the Tracks, since I have never ridden any East Coast Trains other than New York Subways, I wasn't aware the lights were set off so far from tracks.

I need to get out some more that's for sure.

Update: Forgot to mention the Horn, liked it lot! And it was interesting to see the Engine Rock on the older set of Jointed Rail. I once rode with Engineer on 5 MPH track long ago, and I think every 3rd or 4th Tie was smashed from heavy Grain Cars Dragged to Local Cow Grain Silos, that's before they moved the Cows to other parts of California to Build homes. And I asked the Engineer why they didn't fix the tracks, and waste so much Crew Time for slow restricting Train Ops, he said, well we used to have many stops, now we only have 2, everything else has closed or gone to Trucks!

Will leave like that for now, I won't tell the rest of my conversation with him, and now look at our Roads in California.......:p

The signals are GRS searchlight signals. These look quite old - probably from the 30s or earlier. Pretty cool and quite tall is right. I don't know why they're so tall.

Another thing too. When the video starts, just before the train stops to pick up the passengers, you'll notice a catenary bridge and the track balloon loop. Up until the 1950s the Danbury line was electrified by the New Haven. For some reason the wires came down on that line running back to Norwalk, CT. The line the other way was always diesel/steam and that used to run over the bridge to Maybrook as well as connect to the NYC Harlem Division, which it still does today and was the route the train ran on for the fan trip.

I agree those tracks are amazing. When I saw them I kept thinking about how to keep AI drivers from quitting and going off on their own journey somewhere else!

The horns... Yeah that little air horn seems out of place on those diesels. I'd expect a good Nathan horn of some kind to match. I'm sure they're preserved somewhere, hopefully at the museum in Danbury.

The engine sounds... If you noticed they sound quite close to what we've heard in Trainz. I always thought that engine sound in Trainz was awful, guess not.

It must've been quite the commuter trip back when they were at their peak pulling the old American Flyer coaches and rib-sided passenger cars into Penn Station and Grand Central in from New Haven.

Living in New England and visiting family in New York City meant taking the New England Thruway, which meant seeing New Haven action all the way from New Haven down. I remember the wow-factor as the number of different trains far exceeded what I ever saw where I live even today. We had boring B&M maroon and gold, or blue locos so seeing the New Haven and even NYC action was like being in train heaven.

I did feel sad seeing the deadlined NYC coaches, diesels, and Budd RDCs. It's like an era had ended and everything was left to rot.
