Newsletter Not Received

You can sign up for free at the Trainz store. If you are already signed up maybe check your junk mail folder and filters?

I had a problem a while ago where I wasn't getting the newsletters. I went into my settings unsubscribed then re-subscribed to it and been getting them fine since.

If you use a mail client on your computer try logging into web mail and check all your folders. Some services (like gmail) can throw mail into "special" folders like "mail list" and such that you don't find on your client.

Also - use the link at the bottom of the email "Update Subscription preferences" to check on the condition of your trainz email subscription. I can tell you simply re-subscribing usually does not work (with the same email address.) (I run a mail list and have used MailChimp, Constant Contact and others. They have all required you or an admin of the mail list to "reset" the address. You would do that with that "Update Subscreiption prefs" link on an existing email. By the way, always keep the latest email from the list just to have that link.

Other things...
Email will stop if your provider sends back too many "hard rejects" (due to mailbox full and other problems with your account) to the list server.

Also, make sure you have the trainz email address in your approved sender list, "white listed," or in your computer address book (which most mail clients check for valid known addresses.)

Bottom line... a sender cannot "force" an email to arrive anywhere. Once it leaves the sending mail server it's in a "jungle."

One to watch with Gmail is anything that has any reference to mailing list if you have reported any mailing lists as spam, or set up a filter to block them you may find anything such as wanted newsletters get shoved into the spam folder. You can also set up gmail filters to ensure stuff does not get deleted or sent to spam but is always sent to the inbox.

Guess What! The news letter was in GMAIL. Not as a GMail msg but as a copy of the message from my primary mailbox. I have GMail grabbing all of the traffic from that mailbox since the Xfinity mail managing program is terrible at times. I also have Thunderbird pulling the mail from that box but it did not get the newsletter message.

I received a notice that two vendors are ceasing paper billing and going full e-mail. That is a disaster in-the-making!!!! Nuts to the customer - PROFIT. If it breaks both penalize you for missing a payment that they either failed to send, or a virtual dog ate the messages.

I am glad that got resolved. In my experience many (most) e-mail problems are caused by either mail client settings or an over protective junk/spam/malware detector, but I suppose that is better than none.

Almost all of our bills and bank statements are now delivered as PDFs by e-mail and some of the vendors give us a discount for accepting them. But in all cases it reduces paper waste (including the envelopes) and is easier to file electronically. With almost no more paper bills we were able to clear out an entire drawer of our filing cabinet and, eventually, were able to send the entire cabinet off to be recycled. It is a win-win for us and the vendors.

Is anyone really bothered about missing a N3V newsletter? It's just advertising, no useful info imparted!

My thoughts, opinions etc, etc, blah blah blah!

If the bills come as PDFs it should not be as vulnerable as "vanilla' email.

So I read the GMail copy and there were some good tid-bits and some confirmation of known or guessed items. Regardless the new letter make's a nice "quiet" presentation and you may not have been aware of some "stuff". Puts everyone the same page.

Well yes. I do read it and yes, it is mostly advertising but I usually find some interesting information and, occasionally, a major announcement or two. The printed newspaper that is delivered daily to my front lawn is also mostly advertising but sometimes even its ads are interesting and often less "doom and gloom" than the actual news content.

What is useful and what is important will vary from one individual to another. It is never wise to assume that because you or I find something irrelevant that everyone else will as well. N3V are often criticised, sometimes justifiably, for a lack of information and now when they send out a fortnightly (or thereabouts) newsletter, no matter what it contains, that is also criticised. Its a tough crowd!

My thoughts and opinions.
