Newbie Needs to Learn the Rails

OK, I recently purchased TS2010 as a download from the main site. I had terrible time installing it and trying to patch it to the newest build, 49933. Finally, I think I have succeeded. Is it supposed to take almost a minute from clicking on the icon to open the main screen? Seems a little slow to me.

I have some questions. I tried to search for some of my answers, but was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that's here. BTW, that's great because it shows that people are passionate about the simulation. If my questions have been answered elsewhere, forgive my ignorance and point me in the correct direction.

1) Can I delete locomotives and other rolling stock that I will NEVER use? I am born and raised in the United States, and appreciate what European railroading looks like, but won't be using it. Can I delete or is that a pandora's box not to be messed with?

2) Where can I find information on downloading and installing files from the Download Station? Or other sites?

3) How do I go about using files downloaded from said sites? Like replacing the SW900 in the Detroit Dcan session with an SW1500 or MP15AC?

That's probably all I should ask right now. I've worked through most of the tutorials and driven a couple of sessions in couple of routes. At some point, I may have questions about creating my own route and painting locomotives and rolling stock...but right now, I need to learn the basics...crawl before walking, walking before running with scissors.:hehe:

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Jeff,

1) it isn't possible to delete the built-in content (ie that which came in the original install). What you can do is to mark it "disabled" and it won't show up in the game.

2) open Content manager, it will check you have username/password entered...
Now, use the tab for local content ( or installed).
One of the columns is "region", click on the header to order the entries by region, then select everything not US (mouse and shift or control key) right click on the selection then select disable.

The most important thing you need to know about using downloaded content is that you will not be able to use content for a version later than 2010.

ce.

Painting locomotives and rolling stock is called re-skinning in Trainz; it is a valuable skillset to have. There are numerous threads from people who want to know how to start doing it.

Welcome to Trainz and to the forums!

If you are interested in some truly awesome payware, and some free stuff too, check out www.jointedrail.com

These are top shelf and well made models and rolling stock.

We also recommend purchasing from N3V the First Class Ticket which costs about $22 per year. This will allow for unlimited download from the Download Stations (forever called here the "DLS"), otherwise you will be limited to 100MB per day.

Regards,

John

WOW, I knew the boards seemed active, but I didn't expect such quick and helpful response overnight. Thank you for all the information.

Hi,

It may be night-time over in your part of the USA, but the community is international - it ever sleeps (to re-use a old phrase).

Fortunately, most of the people in the main forum can manage English (and American), it's always good to see another person starting!
