New TransDEM tutorial

I have posted a new TransDem tutorial on Roland Zieglers Forums site.
The tutorial, tittled 'Applying Raster Maps to a Route', describes the procedure for georeferencing raster maps to a DEM model within the TransDEM program.
The tutorial is aimed specifically at acquiring and overlaying older 'historic' usgs quadrangles to a DEM model, but the procedure generally applies to any raster map where the geographic data and projection/datum information is known.
Dr. Ziegler's site can be accessed at:
http://forum.transdem.de/
The tutorial is located on the 'Tutorial' page, in my (steamboateng) post. Each tutorial is in easily downloadable PDF format. Left-click on a tittle in the list to access a tutorial.

My apologies to any Trainzer who has been waiting on these tutes. I took an extended holiday from Trainz (as I occasionally do) as much needed R & R!

Regards and Happy Holidays to all

Thanks Steamboateng, but I have to admit, you lost me after the first sentence! Is there some kind of glossary over there too?

I am simpatico with you, Euphod. TransDEM in itself is a relatively easy program to run.............it's the teminology that gets you. I mentioned this to Dr. Roland in an e-mail yesterday............
While going through the program I had to make frequent diversions with my Google finger in order to understand what the heck he was talking about...................and I make no claim that I understand much more now!
I included lots of screen shots with the tute. Just follow the pictures Euphod!

No link to new tutorial

When I log in at http://forum.transdem.de and go to your thread under the Tutorial topic, I find your most recent post to this thread was in April and lists 3 old tutoral links. There is no more recent post giving the link to the latest tutoral titled 'Applying Raster Maps to a Route'.

Thanks Steamboateng, but I have to admit, you lost me after the first sentence! Is there some kind of glossary over there too?

There is a glossary of terms in the TransDEM docs but I could post this list to the TransDEM forum also. As Steamboateng has said, TransDEM isn't complicated to use, but there is a certain lingo, words you may have never heard before or which have a totally different meaning in this new context.

But isn't this the same with railways or 3D modelling, other fields we have learned a lot about since we play with Trainz?

@steamboateng: You might want to add a new post to your TransDEM forum tutorial thread. Otherwise subscribers don't get a notification. The forum software does not trigger, if an existing post is edited.

I have to say if you're doing a US route then steamboat's tuts are a must have! The L&A is now 200 miles long  because of DR. Z and Steamboat. Thank you both for your wonderful work and help. OK back to laying more track ;)

Merry Christmas

Dave

Glad to be of assistamce. I know that TransDEM appears to be a formidable challange to most newbs. But in practice, it's a relatively simply simple program to use. I can't praise its usefulness enough. Having spent hours and hours reading terrain maps and shaping terrain by hand, TransDEM was a Godsend.
Wether modeling prototype routes or your own fictional rr empire, the program saves countless hours of terrain generation.
Dr. Z has been quite helpful in clarifying program functions and geographic terminology. I've no doubt that responding to dumb questions from those not steeped in geographic mysteries has driven the good Dr. to near distraction, at times. My thanks for his patience.
Keep on Trainzin' thai1on...........
