New site started: Needs members!

After getting quite frustrated with the Auran DLS, and desiring my own site to form sort of a 'community' I have decided to set up my own site, here:
http://nathanztrainz.yolasite.com/
I have two of my tram reskins uploaded already. Don't worry, I got permission. Both work in TS2010 Native Mode. Anyway, a good website needs members. So, does anyone want to take up these posts:
Tram Builder: Someone who has GMax and/or Blender experience, not just anyone.
Locomotive/Rolling Stock Builder: Ditto
I can probably do other jobs such as reskinning and route building myself for now. Anyone interested? Don't feel restricted, any member can upload any of their creations to my site.

Does anyone want to join my site? For possible future members who are reading this, I'll simply give you my Yolasite password via PM so you can upload stuff yourself, whether it be locos, buildings, rolling stock, road vehicles etc...

If you haven't realised yet, the community is drowning in websites, and, the members of this community are starting to dislike them, especially considering 95% of them will either stop producing content before the next blue moon or just collapse

It's down at the moment, and it does go down from time to time, but at least it means content is on the DLS and is 'there' It means people don't have to go tracking KUID's on websites that don't exist anymore, plus it means it's available for Multiplayer, which, contrary to belief, does work. It's mostly the community's fault that it doesn't considering they're the ones who put Content on 3rd Party Sites

I agree but when you do download from the DLS sometimes you do get a lot of missing dependencys and I for one am getting sick of it some of the routes have missing stuf as well and a lot of the authers don't want to know

This coming from the guy who criticized my third-party site!!!!!!

Ah JK Jamie, no hard feelings. I was a bit rash that day. But don't worry, I'm not gonna be one of those 95%!

Anyway, Nathan, just give it a while. Somebody will come along. Perhaps put a blog post out about it? That's what I did. Soon enough, I got three other people to join up.

Just give it some time. Getting mad and posting several times in your own thread will just drive people away...believe me, I should know... :)

I agree with H222.

3rd party websites are not the sollution to that. They are the cause of that.

I take the DLS with its outage every now and then over a dependency / content hunt on 3rd party websites 100% of the time.
Then again, I hardly ever seem to have problems with the DLS being down.

The way I see it is if you have a third-party website, it needs to be able to give something that other third-party websites cannot easily do (like my tutorial site, where in most cases the information and utilities present are either not available elsewhere, or are harder to find).

Pretty easy solution for this Don't use 3rd party content at all, Stick to your DLS. I fail to see why you people who only use the DLS have to post your opinions in threads such as this if you do not use 3rd party content.

Rather difficult when content is uploaded to the dls, which requires dependencies only available on 3rd party sites. :n:

Delete it and stick with whats on the DLS and you wont have this problem easy fix, Next problem ?.

It's not as easy as that. I've fallen into that trap myself when I bought some payware from a now-defunct company. This does mean that if something happens to my system, then I have no way of re-downloading the content.

It's going to be the case with most third-party sites though that some day they are likely to either go defunct or close down through other issues (even my site could if the hosting company went bust). At least with the Download Station the only thing that would affect it is if N3V or SoftLayer went bust for some reason (although I personally think N3V should change hosting provider).

Could be useful if you make content and had interests not railway related. Example perhaps somebody made canal or historic maritime routes with no trains that could be run in Trainz. Possibly some might object to such items on the download station so content on a third party site then could make a useful back up for the person and also others would have the opportunity to use it. Just a theoretical example of course and there may be other examples. I once heard of somebody using train tunnels as canal tunnels with horse drawn barges so Trainz might have many uses. B. :) :hehe:

P.S. I never could animate horses in gmax but the train tunnels worked fine as canal tunnels with barges.
