New Simulator?

That's So Trainz Forum
Okay, everyone know my TRS2006 is down. If anyone has anything they'd like to ask me to do about the TRS2006 problem, please let me know! I'm still desperate to fix my simulator. However, since the opposing problem seems to be permanent, I'm willing to purchase another TRS2006 or a newer simulator.

Here's the choices:

Another copy of TRS2006 SP1 for $9.95

Trainz Classics 1&2 for $19.99 + Aurans Shipping Charge

Trainz Simulator 2009 for $30.00 + Auran's Shipping Charge and risk losing some of the content available only for TRS2006.

Also, will TRS2004 content work in 09? If not, then I will mark that one off.;)

Hi Joshua
If your present 06 is not working then it is unlikely that a newer version will work. I have not seen your computer specs but would assume that any problem is down to not enough of something in your computer. Have you tried the disc on another computer to see if it works?

Uh, it works okay, I can run it, play with CMP, do tons of stuff, it just can't recognize my Planet Auran profile or load routes... That's all. This happened AFTER the computer received corrupt data and crashed, erasing everything, and supposedly damaging the simulator. I think I found a problem, and I'm trying to see if it'll work.

First off, I'd avoid purchasing another copy of Trainz 2006. I doubt very much that your copy of Trainz could have been "damaged" as you say by a system crash. Your current installation might have been messed up or lost completly, but not the disks themselves. As such, purchasing another copy wouldn't get you very far and likely isn't needed.

In fact, I'd hold off on purchasing any another version too. If, as you say, all of this happened AFTER the issues with your system, it's likely that this is more of a system issue than a Trainz issue. As such, any new version of Trainz will still be running on a messed up system. :)

Did you take your computer into a technician when all of this happened? If not, I'd suggest making that your first step. As I said, I just don't think this is a Trainz issue, especially if it was working before the crash.

Good luck,
Patrick

Okay, here's what I know:

My TRS2006 is a one disc version compatible for Vista with SP1 pre-installed.;)

The computer somehow recieved corrupt data from a download source (E-mail, web page, downloading, etc.)

Mixed with the dust issue, the computer couldn't take it. One day, after weeks of having to install updates before shutting down, I had to restart it to configure them. As usual, it started up, configured and 'restarted'. This time, it shut down and didn't restart like is said on the screen. I manually restarted it, and it showed the "Windows Couldn't Restart" or something screen. That's sadly normal for when it restarts by itself, so I disregarded it until I saw it said, this time, that it couldn't fix the problem. It said I would have to bring it into a computer technician for further help or send the error report. I sent it. We never did take it in. Instead, my uncle came and reset the computer and set it up again. Whipping everything clean, and forcefully deleting my Trainz files. The dust is okay, but the fans seem to be getting more power from the system then they should. I have to convince my dad to bring it in, but we're tight on money, and we just ripped up carpet to replace it with hard wood flooring. So much for bringing it in... I was going to put it on the old 1998 computer I inherited from a dead neighbor, when I discovered it's disc reading is terrible. I didn't even recognize that I inserted a disc. It showed the logo on the cursor for loading a disc, then nothing!

I'm getting tired of these computers, but I am grateful we at least have this one, after all, before this, we had a crashed 98...:)

Okay, first question: When you mention your Uncle "forcefully deleting my Trainz files" do you mean that he removed Trainz from the system, or simply that he deleted some folders and files like the local folder? You've never mentioned re-installing Trainz in this thread, so I'm curious as to whether or not you did that after the system was restored by your Uncle.

If he formatted the hard drive, then you would have had to re-install it. If he simple re-installed Windows, then you may not have needed to. If Trainz was not re-installed - especially after a Windows re-install - that could cause major issues. At least, in my experience it can. Plus, if certain files and folders were deleted, that would almost certainly cause major problems.

So...Did you re-install Trainz after all of this? If not, I'd suggest making that your first step regardless of what your Uncle did to Trainz. (Remember, you have to remove the old install first.)

Oh, and that old computer may not have a problem reading disks. It may be that the disk drive is a CD-ROM. Did you check? If your versoin of TRS06 is on one disk, then it's a DVD. As such, only a DVD drive can read it. CD drives say "Compact Disk" on them while DVD drives are obviously labeled differently. Then again, maybe it's just a crummy old computer. :)

Well, it whipped all the folders clean, and I do think he re-installed everything back to factory default. Trainz wasn't re-installed in the process, and wasn't re-installed until I finally got a user account and did it myself a few more weeks after fixing. With the computer, it won't run simple labeled CD-ROM things like the 3-disc version of Trainz Driver Edition, and the discs are labeled CD-ROM.

Don't worry about the old intall, I uninstalled it, then re-installed it after re-installing it after I got my account. Trainz was completely removed, all files, including the Auran file. Everything was reset back to when we first got the computer... Anyway to fix that?:hehe: I find humor in my problems because it's always something...;)
