New script?

I had 3 sd70m's pulling and a dash 9 & dash 8 pushing a 11,000 ton stack train up a 2% grade and in the message window I got this - UP C40-8 #9265's engine is overheating... then the next message said bring offline for cooldown. The train slowed to a crawl and after a little while the next message that came up was engine has cooled down. My train then started gaining speed. How long have you guys had this script and what locomotives have it?

Hi Jeff!

Looks like your the first victim to speak up!! I'm sure Justin will see this and chime in further as he created it and can tell you the details about it. I have nothing useful to offer other than yes there is a new script that does this... ;)

You like it or not so much?

Thanks!

Mike

I think this is a neat feature. I didnt even know it existed! Looks like im gonna have to wear out a few C40-8's after school... :)

I love it... I wish or hope I could make all your locomotives do this.

Thanks,
Jeff

they do all do this now, at least, the locomotives using the train fx library. if the engines are overworked with high load amps for a period of time and the cooling fans cannot keep up they have a chance to overheat, this results in a cooldown period as described above. this has only been a feature for the past 2 fx versions but i did not talk about it much because i was waiting to see who was working the engines that hard. it is good to see someone enjoyed it.

you are fortunate that the train did not come to a stall because of this. i met disaster a few times during testing where one engine would go offline and the train would slide backwards. :hehe:

Well I got down to 6mph and still dropping but the locomotive came back online before I stalled. This makes me think maybe I might want to add more power next time or maybe I will just push my luck and see what happens. Thankyou for this awesome script.

Jeff

keep in mind this is not the short time rating but actual engine temp. i have thought about this some, but since there has not been any way to differentiate an AC from a DC locomotive in trainz it applies to all of them using the tfx library. i will probably add tags in the future but anything created up till now has no way to know the difference.

Talking about scripts, whats the purpose for the "release & applied" brake settings when viewing a train-car's properties in driver, besides the obvious?

I have another script I found. I had two D8-40C locomotives with a trailing weight of 9208 tons. I started to go up a 1.4% grade and one of my D8-40C locomotives overheated and shutdown, I then stalled the train. I waited for the locomotive to cool down and tried to climb the grade again only to overheat the same locomotive and stalled the train again. Ok so now I need some help so from a nearby yard I brought over a dash 9 locomotive to couple to the front of the train. I started to climb the grade and then I got wheel slippage and this message came up:
C40-8 #8741 traction motors have reached short-time and are now disabled.
C40-8 #8747 traction motors have reached short-time and are now disabled.
This message came up three times for each locomotive.
I then brought over one more dash 9 and a sd70mac to pull the train to the next siding one mile away to drop off the C40-8 locomotives and I had wheel slippage all the way. It was so cool to brake the locomotives. They never did fix themselves. Will the broke locomotives ever run right again?
Jeff

i will have to look at the wheel slippage, that should not have happened. maybe you locked one of them up? :hehe:

yes, if you exceed short-time on the traction motors they will be useless. currently there is no way to restore them. maybe a rule or driver command in the future that a service shop can perform.

just be careful with your traction motors. those numbers in the red side of the ammeter/loadmeter do apply.

That would be so cool to have to take the disabled locomotives to a service shop. Thanks for making the script, It makes the game more fun.
