New route under development

looking briliant.

A load of work carving out all those rocks and valleys.
The absence of trees is unusual but i can see how much effort you've put into it.

Great work.

Trees will be added at some point, but I haven't decided which range of trees to use yet. I'm not too happy with those I tried out in the city parks because they have an annoying see-through effect that just doesn't look right.

There are other things I'm working on at the moment (like learning Blender) so the trees will have to wait for a while. In the meantime, I figured I'd release a preliminary version so others can download and play with it.

handlaidtrack, I see you noticed my first test run through your route in another thread. That was pretty late last night but I was going to come here & tell you thanks for making it available.

I certainly enjoy the route from what I've experienced so far. About the only thing I found a bit "off" was the floating roads in a few areas. For example, where Consist 0 was placed in my copy of the route, when beginning the run, one soon came to a road floating above the train with no bridge. I was hoping this wasn't some missing content on my part?

Near the cities, I saw some more roads that weren't touching the ground either. I know it's early in your development of the route, and wasn't sure if you were purposely waiting until later to use the spline tool that auto-adjusts the terrain to the correct height of the spline.

Other than that, just as expected, the terrain detail is very nice. I enjoyed going over the deep canyons - a real sense of height and panorama. I agree with previous comments that a few well-placed trees will eventually complete the mood.

Thanks again!

From what you say, this is my best guess of which bridge is missing.
It's called "MB-arch bridge road skew R45 stone", and it's a spline object. I'm not sure what the kuid is but I know it's either standard 2010 content or a DLS download.

I am also aware that the “smooth spline height” tool leaves an unsightly gap under track and roads, but I'm thinking that once I learn Blender, it will be easier to correct it by building new objects that fill the gap, than to go along the route and adjust every grid vertex.

Well, this is the only error in the route:

Error: Dependency <kuid:-1:101083> is unknown.

Here is a screenie. It does indeed look like that bridge is the missing content. I searched for the kuid on the DLS and on Bing and couldn't find it except in lists of content. My guess is that you're right and it's stock 2010 content but not in 2012.

I think maybe that is not the only content that is missing in 2012.
That locomotive was supposed to have a 9-car heavyweight consist that was also built-in for 2010. I removed all the other trains before uploading because I knew that most of them were from the DLS and some had errors that I had fixed. I only left that one because I knew it was built-in, but I guess with the new release, everything I thought I knew goes right out the window.

I figure there are two ways to fix the missing bridge for all users with 2012 but no 2010.
1) Find another 45-degree skew bridge and substitute it.
2) Switch to a grade crossing. The street that parallels the track will then need a fairly steep hill with the buildings stepping up, but I think it should work fairly well.
