It really depends, what's the main purpose for this new laptop? work, games?
Games: high end graphics or mid, or low etc
Work, powerpoints, just general stuff that sort of thing?

Honestly for most stuff the current laptop's pretty good, the CPU is a touch lacking but it's not horrible.

General use but capable of playing games if she wants to.mostly 1st person shooters etc

Reall I find there isn't much of a difference in terms of company quality. HP, Dell, Gateway, etc. nothing has really jumped out with shining performance.

As far as laptops go however, while a bit pricey Dell does come higher than the others. I'd personally look into a Dell or HP.

Is weight an issue?
If it is 15.4" is about the biggest you'll want to go, the LCD's are usually most of the weight in a laptop and above 15.4" the weight can get a bit awkward.
Looking at Dell online, a new XPS will run around $1300 USD (with heavy gaming in mind)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5550 (2MB cache/1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Size: 120GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
High Definition Audio 2.0
Finger Print Reader XPS M1530

Obviously that might be a tad overkill for anything she might want to be doing, but it should be enough for just about anything.

Thanks for that had a talk to her & she may stick with Dell the only thing is they all come with Vista now & she would rather stick with XP.But it's up to her what she will do .
