New Layout - Track

Very new to Route building although played around since TRS2004.
Now preparing an Abandoned Route in Yorkshire with track start point from TransDEM Route import.
I would now like to put my experiences and problems here.
After a few false starts have realised not to rush the work but concentrate on doing and finishing one thing at a time. So starting from a Station Trackwork Layout I am doing these operations:-
a) Doing things on the correct Layer, Are there any prefered or standard acceptable Layer usage layouts.
a) Levelling - removing bumps from track I believe is first issue, figured out how to do that. Note: - need to obtain more template tools for Turnouts, Track Spacing etc.
b) Splines - added splines where required and removed those not required, however in a lot of cases not able to add a spline close to turnouts. Why does this occur, any suggestions please?
To be continued

JackDownUnder: The reason is probably Frame rate..The Trains themselves works Frame rates..So, when its passing the turnout if you placed a spline close by, 3 Frame rate objects are to close together..The switch, the spline, the Train..

Some routebuilders use a track spacing tool. I do it by laying double track. aligning it more or less how I want it, replacing it with single track one section at a time and finally any tweaking that needs doing. It works quite welll me me. Another point I just thought of. When installing switches the rule is the longer the switch the higher the train speed. This applies on the real railway as well as Trainz.

If you want to add a spline such as a fence close to a switch point, hold down the "ctl" key or the shift key ( i have forgotten which). If you don't, Surveyor thinks you want to join to the existing spline, the track, and does nothing because they are different.

There are track spacing tools on the DS eg. by andi06 (look for ajs...) and I have added one or two which I call 'way gauge' (UK standards). But it's a simple matter to make them to your own requirements as a short length of double fixed track. Or as many parallel tracks as you like, even with different spacing between adjacent tracks.

I do not have anything on the layout other than track, I am trying to add a track spline on the existing track.

Thank you for the comment, I am strating from track is that created by TransDEM. So it has lots of tweaking where the Route Line was joined in TransDEM.

Your comment noted, I am learning those controls as I progress.

downloaded the AJS items yesterday and yours this morning, will use them of course to tidy up my Route and turnouts, by the way for UK use do we call them, Points, Turnouts or Switches.

First picture looking up the valley from the NVR Station at Pateley Bridge, These trains not normally on this private route. lot of work still to do.
