Hey guys, First time post here. I have a friend that is getting a used gaming system for his kid to run his 2010 Trainz on and he has asked me for help because the game crashes at the same point of start up every time. Basically when you click on "route" then pick a route and click "quick drive" it loads up to the "quick drive environment" then crashes with an error to desktop. Basically whenever it trys to load the 3d environment it crashes.

The kid has owned this game for a while and I am sure he has registered it and he currently runs it on an old computer... we are just trying to upgrade the computer for him for Christmas but its no good if teh game wont load because thats what he wants it for.

The specs on the system are:
C
ore 2 duo extreme 2.66 Ghz Quad core
4 gig ram
Dual Nvidia 8800 GTX video cards in an SLI
Windows XP up to date

Here is what I have checked and tried:

Tried running in Open GL and direct
Tried running in SLI and single
Pulled out one video card
Pulled out the memory chips and tried them one at the time
reloaded the OS system
Checked the direct X to make sure it was up to date
Nvidea drivers are up to date
different monitor
antivirus on and uninstalled
Everything shows as "passed" on the trainz diagnostic thing.

Everything I tried had no effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that DirectX 9.0c is installed.

Take a look at Shane's tutorials on this. He as a DirectX verifier which will ensure that this is installed. If this continues to have problems, check the Windows Event Log for the application error. This can give you a hint (sometimes) as to why the system keeps crashing.

Have you updated to the latest version of TS2010?
Did allowed the program to run and complete the database update/repair before putting in the next patch if there's more than one?
Have you tried running a built-in session instead of the quick drive?
Run any system diags? Memtst?, chkdsk, etc.?
