No Friend requests please
Below is some help for the New Haven FL9 found in Trainz Classics 1 & 2. Simply save the image and use it to replace the existing fl9map.

You are welcome.

Save the image to your PC and overwrite the existing fl9map by opening the fl9 asset in explorer, and pasting this one in.

Open the NH FL9 asset in TC for edit, go into the body folder, and replace the current main texture for the one supplied.

It's actually easy if you have the right software. You just open the image file and copy/paste Ed's artwork over the existing artwork.

Cheers

Forgive me if I seem a bit thick this morning:o but I could do with another clue!

I saved the new skin as a .jpg but the NH FL9 skin is a .texture

TgaTool2 will convert .texture to .tga but not .tga to .texture apparently

going to say ED "it needs to be a TGA of the power of "4" !" 4 8 16 24 32 64 128 256 512 1024 ect if you dare!!!

PerRock (or someone) had a link to a forum where you could get a utility for converting .TGA to .TEXTURE images. I got the little program, TRSTex a little 32KB .EXE file. When run, it opens a small window, you click a button then navigate to where the image file is and can choose to include the alpha. There's a compression choice, I have stuck with None and it has worked every time. I have no idea what the other compression choices are (DXT1, DXT3, DXT5).
I think this is where I got it from.

I tried DXT1 on one of my old models and had a nice white engine. When I tried either DXT3 or DXT5( I can't remember) the program crashed on me.
I'm making a .pdn file for reskinning the FL9. I using it to make the Maine Eastern engines.

The program your loking for is under "utilities" at the Trainz Reource (see my sig, click the right picture)

Ed's in front of default one. Too bad I cannot post TGAs on Imageshack or I could offer the 2 default track images with fixed Alpha Channels.

Now to fix the "green" one, still ongoing.

While working on the NYC and applying Ed's image to the NH, I discovered there is a defect in their meshes not in the Metro-North one. When facing the front and you enter a running number, if you look at the left numberboard you see a bump between the first and second numbers. Also the horn appears to have been moved. I copied the MN mesh over them and changed the main image name (else I get a white engine :) ) to fl9_mn_map, problem fixed.

Also, the MN and NYC FL9s are missing the 8 and 9 digits in the alpha_numbers folder, I copied them from the NH model.

Too bad it only uses 1 set of running numbers, I couldn't get it to use 2 to apply all the numbers I made. Now I can't decide which type of numbers I should use, ones like on the numberboards or the carbody.
