New Freeware Group: UP Trainz

Do you think this name will misguide some that go to the trainzup.ru site? That is the first thing I thought of. Cool idea though. At least it will really be Union Pacific, which I thought the trainzup site was suppose to be, until I went there.

Fixed it, link is now in post, that better?

One more thing, we will also except fallen flags that are now part of the UP system.

No, but I would prefer for everyone to have at least one Union Pacific related (even if it is just a commuter railroad that uses their tracks) asset available for download.

So hang on, you want EVERYONE to have something UP related up on there? Also, if you cannot create content yourself, why start a website?

Wow. We do not need another 3rd party site! That is why the DLS is here, so take advantage of it!

Except not everybody wants content rights of their stuff handed over to for release N3V. I certainly don't want N3V getting release rights over the Sea of Blue, because I feel that they would screw it up. It's ultimately the creators choice, but I understand why some don't use the DLS.

Its also down a lot now too!

EDIT: I edited some parts of this post in order to reduce the confusion and misleading information that was discovered. If you have other suggestions please PM me.

And why do you seem to treat payware like some form of disease? With all the hard work a content creator put's in to a model, don't you think he/she has a right to decide whether the public should pay for it? OK, sometimes even I reel back at some of the prices on third-party European websites, but JR, RRMods and Paulz Trainz prices are very reasonable. You don't exactly practice what you preach either, judging by the payware in some of your screenshots. God help you if you move over to Railworks...

@nathanmallard; Because, from an 11 yer old boy, I can not afford payware content, I also don't have a PayPal, credit or debit card. I also spend most of my money on N scale trains (an expensive hobby).

@BlakeDooley; Like Bluewater said: "Except not everybody wants content rights of their stuff handed over to N3V. I certainly don't want N3V getting rights over the Sea of Blue, because I feel that they would screw it up. It's ultimately the creators choice, but I understand why some dont use the DLS."

@nathanmallard; I am trying to make my own content, I am just terrible at the 3D modeling programs... and CCP. Also, notice that I build routes, I have three in the making right now and am almost ready to release one of them.

Oh my dear Lord. HOW WOULD THEY SCREW IT UP THEY HOST IT. DO YOU KNOW HOW DUMB THAT COMMENT WAS PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW THEY WOULD SCREW IT UP AND BESIDES YOU STILL OWN THE ASSET THEY JUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO PUT IT IN-GAME IF IT'S GOOD ENOUGH WHICH SHOULD BE AN HONOUR

AMTRAKwannabe - Please explain why you hate payware if you decide to spend your money on other things?

N3V "forces" things through the system to make content work in versions that it was never meant to work in. I cannot recall the thread in which I read this, but I know it was in the past 6 months. I am not letting N3V get ANY rights over my creations, because I do not trust anyone there, and I feel that errors will appear in the route itself, errors that would need to be fixed and updated when so many people on here don't even run their content updates. That's my take.

H222, you've caused me nothing but hell ever since my site came out. I'll leave it at that. But I ask you to leave me alone unless I say otherwise, please. I have other things to focus on than somebody who scrutinizes me and my opinions everywhere I turn.

How do they "force things through the system"? There's plenty of content - probably a majority - that works in versions it was "never meant to work in."

I'm not sure what you mean by "errors will appear in the route itself." If content is not updated to work with more current versions of Trainz, then it won't work regardless of where it's hosted. I could probably find more broken content from third-party sites than I could on the DLS.

And, at least, there is some attempt keeping content up-to-date on the DLS. That's not the case with many if not most third-party sites.

RRSignal, what I am trying to say is that N3V (and the DLS) are not reliable. The DLS has been up and down for weeks now, and I don't want people to have to download 800+ Content updates just for my route. It's always the creators choice, and he wanted to create a site of his own.

The DLS is vastly more reliable than third-party sites, which also go down with alarming frequently, or just disappear altogether, usually taking required content with them. For good.

Third-party content also greatly harms the hobby by making both route-builders and downloaders more reluctant to create/share and download routes. I've run into a few of the former, and a lot of the latter here.

As for choice, sure, it's your choice. It's also my choice not use any third-party content on my route, or download any route made with third-party content. Why spend all these hours creating routes, items, etc. if you're going to significantly limit your audience?

That's different and a reasonable reason. But to say you give up your rights when placing content on the DLS simply isn't true and could mislead others not to place it there as well.

The only reason I like third party sites better is because I can't download anything for TS2009 from the DLS or CMP. Third party content works fine.

Yes, that is true, and I did not intend that. I will cut that out. If they want to use the DLS, fine, sobeit. And what RRSignal said is also true; that Third-party sites go down all the time, or don't go updated. At MIRI, I am sure that that won't happen, but the rest of the community does not know what goes on, and that's why they're skeptical about new sites. It's understandable.
