New Aircraft

McDonnell Douglas MD-11F - UPS

Hi folks,
I've been on the go slow again. The Rugby World Cup has been taking up much of my spare & sleep time lately. After the weekend my fingernails and hair are non-existent.

I have managed to sort out my latest upgrade, the MD-11F UPS cargo aircraft.

MD11F%20UPS%2003_zpskx8n3zwy.jpg

This one has had a serious Vulcan Aviation re-build. The original model was a DC-10 which was the closest I had to work with. Ian has all but re-modeled it to suit the dimensions of the larger MD-11 complete with winglets.

Ian's been working on a new air cargo system that's been tormenting us (incl. Pascal) thanks to a short coming with the Trainz interactive industry features. This aircraft has the ability to load & unload air cargo containers. I've re-skinned a UPS product group to suit. The cargo system is still a work in progress but the MD-11 is ready for it. The H-key opens the cargo door of the aircraft.

Ian did most of the re-skin work on the aircraft to suit the new model & has allowed me to release it as my asset to obsolete the old one. This is now a startup model with all the other avionics upgrades in line with the others so your AI will need a tweak. Pascal has been working on a KLM based on the same model. Not sure whether he's released it yet. There is no 'Vulcan Original' template asset for this so re-skinners will need to use this one or Pascal's KLM to clone from.

I'm working on updating the B767 UPS (in the background) at the moment.

Fantastic work. I have an aircraft related question. My upcoming route uses invisible switches for air routes. However In TANE I found out that while they display they don't switch. So I cannot switch the invisible levers. Do you guys also have that problem or are they updated also?

Anyway keep up the good work making all those fantastic aircraft.

Hi Rob --

Awesome work there, sir ... my national airport awaiting the new arrivals!

A question? Is there a truck to upload the loads from the cargo bays?

Ish

Ish,

The Cargo project is a work in progress. I don't think Ian has uploaded any of the static assets for unloading freight as yet. He's developed a couple of assets to do some beta testing but we're not really there yet.
So in sort. No. Not that I'm aware of.

Hi Rob --
Thank you sir for the info!!!
Well done on those planes! :D

Hi Pascal,

Just downloaded the MD-11, but have an unknowen content " kuid2:60238:70065:1 " the kuid is for the containers.

Gordon

Hi Guys, I have been away for two weeks with no computer, will upload the containers as soon as Trainz has stopped doing a database repair, that usually takes a couple of hours. :(

Ian

No worries Ian, would you like the models of the containers I did so you can up date them for your aircraft?

Gordon

Hello Gordon, the container products and some individual containers are now available.

The uploads include product groups for the LD2, LD3, and LD3-45 container classes, these are the common types, and are mixed airline names. There are also groups for Qantas, Cathay, and German Wings, these will produce the same airline name but with different serial numbers, and a number of individual containers as scenery items are included in the uploads.

These can easily be reskinned, just give them your kuids, new name and redo the texture sheet to suit.

I am working on a container transport system, with towing tractors, trailers and some simple depot models. The problem is that the containers can only be delivered or picked up using an industry installation, they cannot be delivered from the trailers direct to the aircraft (another traincar).

This is one of the drivable tractors, I use a script, press the B key and the driver appears and the engine starts, like the aircraft. Flat tyres have been fixed.

Still some work to do, when I get back into it.

Gordon, have a look at the texture for the container products, see if they are suitable for your containers etc.

Hi,

I have been working also on the MD11 freighter. This one belongs to Lufthansa:

The containers products issued today by Ian can be used with this aircraft.

Ian, i have an idea about your container loading problem. Give me a little time so i can work it through and i'll get back to you. one thing i do need to know is, can you link a visible animation to an invisible industry?

Gordon

Hello Gordon,

Yes you can use an invisible industry with animation. I had been experimenting with that for an animated loader for the aircraft, to solve the problem of not being able to transfer directly from one traincar to another.

I have an unloading area as a concrete slab, with attached track for the trailers and for the aircraft on the other side. An invisible area might be a problem in knowing where to stop the aircraft.

cargo-tractor105.jpg

It has attachment points to show the containers. One thing with using attachment points, they will not all be populated, if for example you have a queue capacity of 50 containers for the industry and a initial value of 25 containers, the model will only show containers on half of the attachment points (25/50)

I do have a loading platform that is drivable, the platforms are animated, it might be made to work as an industry object to load aircraft, but is not proving amenable to synchronising the animation, you would realise that aircraft cargo door heights would vary and the animation would not suit them all. I might upload the tractors and trailers and then return to the loading platform idea.

Ian, how about making a loader with height settings that could be accessed via properties tab? make the loader nameable (eg. 01 - B747, 09 - A380 etc.....) and when you activate the check mark in the properties it will move to the correct height for that model aircraft.

Hope that makes sense

Gordon

Gordon, that is an idea. I have used that for the static scenery object, the Nimitz Aircraft Carrier. A popup box selects whether you want an elevator on the side of the ship or not.

The loader is a traincar, and the usual popup is used for the commodities carried, using inbuilt encrypted code. I have not worked out how to add popup tick boxes to this screen, as an addon to the commodities listing.

Ian

I know on some JR box cars they have a slider for opening the side doors, would that script make it easier; either one slider with graduated marks for each aircraft or one per aircraft.

The Mc Donnell Douglas MD11 family increases.
With a small update of the model around the engines, there are two new reskins uploaded:

MD11-CF operated by Martinair. You can see the cargo bay door open, with the containers.

And a MD11 with Swiss colours.
