New 4 track passenger-enabled station under-construction, Rsw

martinvk

since 10 Aug 2002
During yet another detour in my route building, this station is under-construction. It will be a 4 track, passenger enabled station when its done. Still lots to do before that happy day. :) The passengers have to be added, the textures adjusted as well as various details added. So far it weighs in at 2802 polys.

Here the main passenger entrance.

The train entrance. The blue pin-like object is not part of the station, it is a Lat-Long reader to help locate the station

The construction continues:
People have been added. Trainz stop and load and unload them sucessfully.
Catenary wire has been added.
Textures have been adjusted to almost their final configurations
Major mesh adjustments have also been done to almost their final configurations.
The entrance offices and commercial mall has been added.
The poly count has crept up to 3532. Now to find a few more hidden faces.

Holy cow, it looks great! That will be a centerpiece of more than one route I'm sure!

Glad to read that some people like it so far.

After revising some of the mesh elements and tweaking the textures, I think I'm close to the end.

As in many projects, poly creep has set in and it's up to 4576. Still thinking about how much detail to add. Being a closed station, it will be harder to place objects on the platforms with any kind of accuracy compared to an open platform were it's easier to see what you're doing. The down side is that the poly count will go even higher and everyone including me will be stuck with the platform objects I choose now. One idea that just occurred to me is to use attachment points. Then the actual objects can be controlled via the config file.

That idea sounds like a winner, if the orientation of the attached objects can be guaranteed! I have no idea how you would go about this!

Rijswijk

The new station is finally finished and will be sent to the DLS. Or I should say, I've stopped adding things, for no model is ever truly finished. There is always another little detail that could be added. :hehe: Simple light fixtures have been added along with the appropriate night glows. The electrical catenary wire is part of the station but not the visible supports. I added dinhanger1tES 87187:20169 which you can see in some of the images to provide support. By placing the station on one layer and then locking it, I can easily add platform items as well as other objects without any danger of disturbing the station.

Still only 4728 polys along with 676 polys for the night mode.

Really nice looking station.

Is that actually Rijswijk, the Netherlands? I only have seen that station from the train; never knew it looked that good from the outside.

If it is Rijswijk, I am really happy you cant simulate smell in Trainz. :hehe:

Yes, it is Rijswijk in the Netherlands. Since it is such an iconic looking station, it was difficult to reuse another station as a stand-in without looking out of place on my never ending route. So I had to make it. Once it is available on the DLS, you'll find it as 70337:28207:12
