Needing Help Transitioning Trainz, desperately!

Hi all, I recently transitioned my local folder from my old Trainz 2010 on my old computer to my new Trainz 2010 on my new computer. My assets are in CM. However, the launcher will not stop updating the Trainz asset database. Which is not an issue, other than it shuts off once it gets into "Checking for Faulty Assets". When I re-launch, is attempts to scan again, repeat, repeat. I can NOT access the game or the CM at this point because it will not quit doing this. It had been throwing an error when it got to that point in the scan saying it could not 'write the UserData'. I am clueless, and have been in the process of transitioning for three days now and am about to throw it out the window. Thanks for ANY help.

How did you transition your local folder (i.e. transfer it to the new computer)? I had a lot of similar problems recently after reloading T12 onto a new hard drive. First I just attempted to transfer the old user data file direct into the newly loaded TS12. That was only partially successful. I found the most effective way to transfer my old content was by using the import content function in the Content Creator. You need to Import all the data from within your User Content Folder, which can be a lengthy process, but it worked well for me. You might need to erase your current copy of T10 and reload it first.

Bob, I transferred it from the old PC to a 64GB flash drive, and then onto the new computer. A friend of mine had recommended me to go into the flash drive and drag and drop the local into the UserData folder.

It is never a good idea to just copy the Local and Original folders from another installation directly into UserData. despite what some may say.

The correct procedure is to use Import Content and point it at each folder in turn.

Woody,

Robert is spot on. Copy your local folder over to the new computer into a directory outside of Trainz, then use the import content function. I Only import a few folders at a time, because once you import, you then have to commit.

It takes a while to do, but it works 100%.

The reason that you can't just paste the local folder over to the new install is CM needs to put it into it's asset database. If it isn't in assettdx, it doesn't exist.

Okay thanks Chris. The problem I have now, is I can not access CM without it running a scan, a scan it fails at everytime. But if I re-attempt to access CM, it fails again. Should I just delete the local folder out of the userdata?

You may have to reinstall and then import your old local folder.... I don't remember if there is anything initially in the local folder once a fresh install is done. CM will prolly keep crashing until the assettdx and the local folder match.

The reason I reccommend moving the old local folder onto the new hard drive is that the USB port is limited to a certain data rate.....transferring from one directory to another (Via import content in CM) will be faster.

You will at least have these for motivation:

... You installed it in C:\Program Files (x86), didn't you? *sigh* Find the N3VGames folder, right-click, and select "Properties". In the Security tab, click "Edit". Find your username and check the box for "Full Control". Do the same for the administrator user. Click OK. Go into the folder, then open TS12. Find trainz.exe, right-click, go to Properties, click the Compatibility tab, select "Run as administrator", and press OK. Do the same for everything in the bin folder that has a .exe extension. Open your antivirus and tell it to ignore the N3VGames folder and all its contents. Go to your firewall and create rules granting full access to each of the Trainz processes.
