Having dabbled with TS2006, I thought I had this content manager thing partially mastered. But, I downloaded the EK3 route, and all of it's associated downloads listed on their site. And, for whatever reason, there were missing dependencies, most of which were on the DLS. OK, went through the tedious process of downloading them ( my FCT expired on the 1st, even though I hadn't been running 2010 for even a week ). Two days and 131+ Mb later, several of the items downloaded from the DLS are faulty. I deleted them and downloaded again in case I had a few bad downloads. Same files are still faulty ( about 24 of them, I think ). I managed to hopefully fix one by renaming on of the .txt files ( wood03.... now doesn't show as error ). Fixed others by simple editing. My first concern is why there are files with these simple errors still existing on the DLS. But my biggest concern is selfish. I still have three files that have errors and all have similar problems. I am not sure what to do about these.

Some of the faults may be due to the compression of the TGA's, but some maybe able to be fixed in "Edit in Explorer". Sometimes extra files are present in the folder of an abject, such as a texture.text file pointing to a graphics file that doesn't exist, the creator may have simply forgotten to remove an un-needed file from the directory. You can then delete those extra files yourself.

I've got faults with the fuel cranes r+l and the old garage and sanding tower. ignore them. They dont affect the route at all.

So..., I have to think, huh? Actually I had one faulty object that I renamed the .txt file and the fault went away. If I "remove" one of the texture.txt files that is "needed", will I still get an error? Or does that only show in the sim itself as a "missing" texture? Will "View in Surveyor" let me see if there are any that I shouldn't have removed, so I don't have to start the sim?

I did a quick drive on the route and you are correct; does not seem to affect anything. But one of my other errors ( involving a bridge object ) had me driving across a chasm on simply rails with no support. Glad I was using lightweight passenger train. LOL

I do wonder why things with essentially simple fixes ( I was able to figure out 21 out of 24, even though I am relatively new to Trainz. I do have experience with MSTS so editing files doesn't frighten me away like a complete newbie might be. ) haven't been "fixed" on the DLS so that they are error free when they are downloaded.

DRJoe,
Threeheadedmonkey made these 3 fuel cranes:
Fuel Crane left,<kuid:38408:28005>
Fuel Crane right,<kuid:38408:28004>
Fuel Crane front,<kuid:38408:28003>
The left and right ones are the same mesh as the front one, except one is turned slightly left and one slightly right. Unfortunately, he forgot to include the texture files in the left and right versions before uploading them. For what it's worth, these 3 kuids were made in Aug. 2004 for the first version of TRS2004. Error checking of uploads at that time was minimal. The front version is complete and commits without error in TS2010 making the left and right versions redundant, since the front facing fuel crane can be rotated after placement in Surveyor to face any direction desired. My advice is to delete the faulty left and right versions, get the front version and move on.

Bob

The EK3 route uses both the front and the left versions. If I delete the left version, won't the route then have missing dependencies? I went into surveyor and looked around. Used "find object" to search on fuel. Only two "hits", and neither were the specific object but rather an area on the route. Both seemed to use one of the crane versions in question, but I can't be sure, and I can't even tell whether the ones I see are the front or the left ones. I didn't "select" any objects because I didn't want to change anything yet. If I do select and then check the properties, could I then see which one ( front or left ) was being used and then possibly replace any using the left one with the front one? I think I will clone the route first! Thanks for answering my questions.

Joe,

Purely from memory now so don't complain if my details are not exactly correct.

As Bob says above the three cranes are very similar.

What I did:-

Opened the faulty one (the left one, in my case) and removed the ".texture.txt" files associated with the errors you recorded above.

Then open the front crane for edit (the one without texture errors) and copied the ".texture" files to the left crane folder.

NB. Note the difference: ".texture.txt" & ".texture"
This fixed the errors for me..................

Cheers,
Laurie
