Need help finding HO Scale Locos

I need help finding HO scale locos that are less then 40 bucks....
Good quality would be good

I already searched but they were in the $50 price range and i don't trust Ebay. Please help.:wave:

i doubt your going to find any, but i have seen ho lionel locomotives on there for like $10. they tend to run really good and they have extreme pulling power for the teenie tiny motors they have. i would know, i have one

At Model RR Conventions and Train Shows with Flea markets ... scratch & dent sold "as is" stuff.

Yea, Idoubt you can find a high detail, really good quality loco for $40 but look at train shows, because prices (most of the time) are quite reason able.
(Old Lionel HO engines do run very well)

Yes. If you can find a local train show or swap meet, that would be best. I've gotten away with $40 or less on some good quality Athearns at those kind of things. You can get away with some good deals on ebay, but the problem is that you can't see first-hand the condition of what you're buying. For example, I found a brass steamer on ebay for $100. After it showed up, I found that the gears hadn't been replaced at all in its 40 years of existance, and wouldn't run without extensive costs to replace the gears and motor.

At the hobby store I go to I got a really nice Athearn AC4400 for $35! All we had to do was repaint a couple of things and it was good. Also, you might be able to find a Bachmann Spectrum in bad shape for a cheap price, then you can send it back to them with about $20 and they will give you a new train, part of their lifetime warranty!

Good luck for 40 bucks. The best quality diesels are at least 75, and the good quality steamers are at least 150.

I bought one of these in BNSF "Pumpkin" and I love it. I paid $35 for it so that's quite the deal. The only complain I have is one of the plastic driving rods partially broke, so I cannot run it at a high speed with a heavy load anymore. Other than that, Its a great locomotive.

I like trainworld as well. Except they do not stock as much as say....Walthers.

Oh yes you can. Walthers sells for the dealer-recomended price, which is usually the highest you'll ever find. Hobby shops are usually anywhere from $5 to even $40 off the Walther's price. Then again, there is very little you can't find on the Walther's catalog (that isn't Horizon Hobbies of course).

Actually, I'm looking at some decent deals on ebay for some decent stuff. While I'm sure you won't be going down that road; if you do, just look for the top-rated sellers and you should be alright.

1.Check local shops
2.Check trainland/trainworld
3.check Walthers.
