Need an Idea for a Route?

Get over it
Go to Google Earth, type in Deepwater, NJ (Carneys Point) and right away you will see a Co Generating Plant, a Chemical Plant and a Waste Water Treatment Plant. Follow the line North and you will go through the Township of Carneys Point, the Burrow of Penns Grove, home of Bruce Willis, past farmland, over marshland and over many different bridges. Along the route is a manufacturing plant that was named at one time "PolyOne". Not sure what it's named now, many tank cars and covered hoppers. Farther along the line there are at least two refineries plus many more industries that require many different types of rolling stock. The route passes through many small and medium size towns with needs for rolling stock. I think the route goes through Camden, NJ and crosses a bridge into Philly which I'm sure has a large yard. A DEM would be very helpful for any one wanting to try this. I don't have the patience, a DEM or the skills for this. If I had a DEM I might give it a try but I'm hoping one of the more talented route builders will take a look at it. If you need more info drop me a line.

You'll get no argument from me about the hills. We just had a foot of snow dumped on us and the kids have to use the sides of overpasses to sled. Is there an explanation on how to use Google earth to place the map somewhere on the forum that I can read? Thanks.

Use http://maps.google.com and link the map to the forums. There's even a way to hare the map.

Western New Jersey, though, gets hilly especially when heading towards the PA and New York line near the Delaware Water Gap area. :)

Hey John - yes, I've been up that way a few times but down here in Salem County it's very flat. I live about 5 miles north of the Delaware River Bridge about 2 blocks from the river. If I travel about 6 miles East I'm in God's country. Farmland, trees and open space but keep that quiet, we don't want others to know about our little neck of the state. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. Did either of you take a look at the route?

Yup. I have family down your way, I can't remember where though, and formerly in the western part. I won't tell anyone. :)

I took a look... That is a busy area and looks quite interesting. I think it's called the Chemical Coast?

Looks like a very interesting project. Personally I prefer something not quite as flat but it's certainly the kind of route that piques my interest. It reminds me of one of my all-time favourites, Dermmy's Evansville & Western.

As I stated earlier in the thread if either one of you or anyone for that matter decides to give this a try I'm here for any questions or help with the area.

Best thing I could suggest here is to ask "Why not have a go yourself"?

Every content creator I know creates out of self-interest. Not an insult or an attack, but accurate IMHO to say everyone creates for their own reasons, and with a Very very few exceptions (A certain store in honor of one of our more prolific creators for instance), I have pretty much never seen anyone in Trainz create in a manner that could be described as "Selfless" or "Altruistic".....

Along that score, if people have interest to create, its usually something they've chosen to create...... As it hasn't been built yet, I would posit its because nobodies had the personal interest to do so, yet.... You could change this, you obviously have the interest that nobody else has to date. All thats left is to put Pen to Paper as it were, though more accurately, to Plink Asset to Virtual Terra.....

Route creation really isn't specifically hard.... Its just time consuming for sheer volume of asset Plinking that goes on. Still it can be fun and interesting. Go try something new. Learn something(s). And build the route you wish to see....

Those building belonged to a fairly large construction company that no longer exist. All types of road equipment were stored there or in the back. Bulldozers, dump trucks, road paving equipment, graders etc. Taking up space now. About 2 miles from my house.

So that means you can go down the street and do some train watching, those are interesting-looking buildings nonetheless. :)

The area isn't much flatter than eastern Mass is when you get out past Newburyport and north into the New Hampshire seacoast near Salisbury, MA, and Seabrook, NH on the way up to Portsmouth. The terrain is more or less the same with flatness on the eastern half and steadily increasing in height as we head west to the Berkshires - yet another string of mountains in the same Appalachian chain, albeit, a bit more north.

I don't have to go down the street to watch some trains. If you go to that Google link in post #10 and follow the line north for a short distance and double click on the intersection at Plant Street and one street over from Ash you will see my house, it's the slate blue one. Sometimes those loco drivers really lay on the horn. Two times a day they pass. A coal consist rumbles through about once a week in the middle of the night with little noise (horns), go figure. I've seen Locos from the Bee Line, BNSF, Southern Pacific, NS Heritage along with the usual CSX and NS. I will say this about NS. They keep the tracks well maintained so there is very little shaking or vibration unless they exceed the speed limit and you know when they do.
