need a 2004 volunteer

route builder
Hello 2004 users,

I uploaded this road asset about a week ago:
file: xjc road1 HT

It's modified from a built-in road in 2006 "road" <kuid:36713:37300>
Just changed the traffic really. I didn't change the trainz-build, because I didn't see any reason it shouldn't work for earlier versions.

A 2004 user has downloaded this file, and the road show up allright, but it is all white, does not show the texture.
I don't know if he might be the only one with this problem, or if this file in general won't work for 2004, in which case I will update my file to show 2006 only.

So, could I please have a volunteer to download this file and check it in 2004? I would very much appreciate a feed-back on this, thank you.

Just tried it for you Jytte, sorry but it's a no-no in 2004. :(

Thanks a bunch Blackwatch !

Blasted! Ok, I guess the lesson here is, that I have to make files for 2006 only, and make sure I update the build as well. I will update the road files in question to avoid any further misunderstandings.

Trainz 2006 build will not work in 04. You must put the build number lower to match that of 04 2.3. Traffic is changed in the map config not in the road as far as im aware. The car rate is in the asset.

The trainz build on the roads in question is 1.5.

Car rate can be individually set for a road. This is why I had 3 of these, high traffic, low traffic and no traffic, as that is what I needed for my layout.

I'm sorry this doesn't work for earlier versions. And so far I've been unable to make a new version, as the ones I've tried to make as 2.5 builds, are immediately crashing Trainz, go figure.

have you tried 2.4? in the config file, it should work both in TRS2004 and TRS2006, config file needs to be 04 standards.:)

2.4? Don't think so. Must have a look through my files and check.
Worth trying out. Thanks Ahsan.

This is part of the config for a road:

kind "track"
type "Roads"
region "DK"
length 5
istrack 0
grounded 0.2
width 13
bendy 1
isroad 1
uncached_alphas 1
carrate 5
obsolete-table {

the carrate value is what you change

0 = no traffic

I believe 3 is minimum you can use.

the higher the number, the less traffic (value is min seconds between generating cars)

The traffic itself (as in which cars are driving on the road) you can change in a region file.

Hi Jytte :)
I downloaded this asset and installed into TRS2004. The road shows up white as you say. The problem appears to be the "texture" file.
I used "TGATool2" to open the file and saved as "Road1.tga". The TGA image is saved with the alpha channel. You now need to rename or remove the original ".texture" file and create a ".txt" file to reference your new TGA.
file name = "road1-road1_tran.texture.txt"
copy and paste the following into this txt file...
Primary=road1.tga
alpha=road1.tga
Tile=st

TRS2004 should now show your road up correctly. It does for me. :)

Your original config.txt is fine.

If you don't have TGAtool2, you should be able to find a link by searching the forum.
Cheers mate,
Neal

Thanks Neal, pretty nifty what you did there.

Odd though, since the original works in 2004, and I didn't touch the texture files, and it works for me in 2006.

Hi Jytte. :)
I remember reading in another post somewhere that the DLS will reject uploaded ".texture" files. It seems it was canibalised rather than rejected. :hehe:
Glad to help mate.
Cheers,
Neal

Well, at least this opened my eyes to some issues I need to be aware of. I don't have 2004, so I can't check myself what works and what doesn't. Another friendly 2004-user has volunteered to check some of these for me though. It seems a shame to "limit" a file for 2006 users if it will work for 2004 as well, with a little care. I'm gonna have to study this some more and experiment a bit.

Thanks again all, for your pointers and advice.
