N&W 382

is the 1218 and 611 powerful to pull NS bussniess train?

sorry i had to post early
here is my qustion to any N&W 1218 or strasburg 475 fans. can the 1218 and 475 pull NS bussniess train?

The 1218 was designed for long heavy coal drags and could handle most any load you put on it. It could certainly handle a business train with ease.

Indeed, the 1218 could probably handle most any load on Norfolk Southern today, be it an intermodal train, a coal train, or a manifest.

I have doubts as to whether it could handle your mom as a load, though. (And I think the FRA prohibits Schnabel cars behind steam locomotives anyway, so that's immaterial.)

611 would probably look better running the train, though.

That being said, NS isn't likely to retire their E-units in favor of steam locomotives, because they'd be much more expensive to maintain.

both 475 and 1218 are frieght engines and today the 1218 sits cold in ronnoke and 475 is pulling tourist trains on the strasburg.

why 611? strasburg 475 is a N&W engine it can pull the NS bussiness train form lancaster to harrisburg. because it is a 4-8-0

Umm, no. For one thing, it's not leaving Strasburg. Ignoring that, you try pulling over 20 passenger cars with a small 2-8-0 and tell me how that goes. And before you make some dumb comment saying "straburg 475 is a 4-8-0 locmotive" I know that. 611 is a N&W engine too, idiot.

Also in your other post, it's called Roanoke, not ronnoke.

unless you doublehead with a 2-6-6-4 like 1218.

Why? For one, I think it'd look awkward. Also, why spend the extra money on operating costs for BOTH locomotives? I though Articulateds were developed partially to cut down doubleheading.

what they did doubleheader with 611 and 1218. why not 475?

back to N&W 382 in railfan and railroad there was a story of strasburg 475 transformed in to N&W 382 for a charter

Yes, we know. We all have our own ways of learning this info. Like competent forums with competent posters. And railpictures.net.

Plus I was actually at the afternoon charter. Though surprisingly short, we got a lot of great action at the photo locations and at the night photo session. Good event indeed
