My reskined engine is complete!

I've been working over the past couple of month's on my custom reskined MSTNoodle Emily, and I just finished it. It has interchangeable faces because I created a custom facepack for it, and a custom Whistle. Here are some screen shots of 3 of them. They all have different expressions to show off the interchangeable faces.

[NOTE] This is just a personal reskin. It is not going to be released. Just the whistle and the facepack will, once I can create a proper script for this first.

SI3D released a model of Emily that comes with three 3D faces back in December, and they plan to add more.
I commend you on your efforts at reskinning, but was it really necessary to do it at all with a very outdated model and possibly break the eula's that are applied to all of Mstnoodle's content by providing the tools to do so?

I didn't like the version of the SI3D Emily when it finally came out, as I, like most, were looking forward to them sticking to what they done before. Remember that one post I created quite a while back? Well, SodorProductions basically showed the SI3D Emily with a Facepack, not the 3D facepack that comes with the Emily now. I did this because I enjoyed the facepack concept much more then the 3D faces. The Facepack and whistle will be released with a proper script for those who have the MSTNoodle Emily, and want to customize it a little more.

Well, alright, I guess. I just didn't want you to feel like you had wasted time on this if you found out you couldn't release your facepack and whistle.
But just to be safe, you should ask if what you're doing is in any way illegal before its release. Wouldn't want to get in trouble now, would we?

I guess. But I don't think that MSTNoodle is on very often. And what did you mean that it's illegal? I said, I'm not releasing the engine. JUST the whistle and facepack.

Yes, I know you said that you are not releasing the loco itself. I even mentioned the facepack and whistle to further show that I understood what your intentions are.
And it does not matter if Mstnoodle is active or not, it is his content and he legally has full control over what is done to it. I never said it was illegal, I said to check to make sure that it is not illegal, just to be safe.

What you are releasing is a facepack and whistle, the facepack replacing part of the model's original texture. In a way, reskinning it. While legal for personal use, I am unsure of its legality as a distributed tool to apply these new face textures to a model that Mstnoodle has explicitly forbidden to be reskinned and redistributed.
I know you are not distributing the model itself, but the facepack you are distributing will, in a sense, reskin the model. You made the facepack, distributed the facepack, and others will use the facepack on the model to replace part of the original texture. By the distributive property, you are, in a sense, distributing his reskinned content. But that may not matter here anyway.

It may be best to ask someone, like a moderator here, if this may or may not be illegal. When you ask, it would be best to include the original config file Mstnoodle applied to his model of Emily. The moderator can read the eula Mstnoodle wrote in the config file concerning the editing of his models and determine if what you are doing is considered breaking Mstnoodle's eula.

I'm thinking distributing the facepack is legal, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Ok. I'll ask a mod about it. Also, the other reason I did it is because SI3D's 2010 Models are not low poly models like the 06 models are, the Mangandy Models, and the MSTNoodle models were. With them being low poly, they don't take long to load, as I believe that SI3D has forgot how to bring the poly counts down.

The face-pack itself is able to be distributed. The end-user needs to add some scripting and many config entries before it will work on the intended locomotive, so they would be doing it on their end only. The modifications to the loco itself to get this facepack to work (the original model doesn't have support for it) would not be redistributed in any way.

And the whistle is, of course, perfectly fine to distribute. :)

Kieran.
