My Head is Spinning

I won't dispute that you've been working with computers for some time, however your posts are extremely inaccurate.

For starters...

Only one of these that you have listed is part of our DLC system. Specifically the S&C pack. As neither the Marias Pass or Roy's Trainz routes are available through the new DLC system, they will not need to be re-downloaded. At this time, the only DLC's that you will need to re-download (if you own them...) will be the 'official' DLC packs (Those that use a '.exe' installer, and a serial number that appear in the 'configure trainz' options).

I only know of a small number of people who have experienced issues that actually require a re-install of Trainz. I think it maybe 5-10 people so far? Note, this is where we have recommended a re-install, or would have recommended a re-install. Out of the total number of people who have downloaded it (and so far, it's only been announced via these forums; so those who have downloaded will have had plenty of opportunity to download), this is a very small number.

Actually, I've found only a small amount of content in my TS12 that was faulty, at least of content that I actually use. Mind you, most of mine is DLS content, and fairly recent content as well. Those that are faulty should be fixed fairly quickly as part of the DLS clean-up...

Our point is that most of your comments are relatively uninformed assumptions based off comments on the forums, the majority of which we've actually resolved, or are working to resolve. Unless you have installed SP1, you really can't accurately comment on what SP1 actually does.

Regards

No offence, but I am not into beta testing software anymore, did that back in my flight sim days for a few years, and don't presently have the time or interest. When the dust settles, after a couple of months, and the threads outlining problems with SP1, subside a bit, I might consider trying it. Right now, everything is working pretty well on my system, so "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is the way I am going to proceed in the near future.

It's my experience that early adoption of anything related to these "Satanic Boxes" is not the best idea. As hard as it is sometimes; it's better to wait a while and let the front lines soak up the bullets first.

Exactly, I am never one to buy something like the first production run of a new car, or electronic gear. Let the folks that are in a big rush to get everything first , deal with the probable bugs and hassles, and then I'll think about it.

Hello clam1952,

That's a really constructive suggestion. I was going to wait until everything got sorted out but now think I might give it a try. Thanks.

Bernie

Great recommendation...

To those frightened of risking the patch and loosing and screwing up their copy of TS12 but really want to test the patch before committing themselves to it. Try this.
1. Make a new folder
2. Name it TS12 backup
3. Copy the contents of your TS12 folder to TS12 Backup
4. Patch existing TS12
5. Run an EDR before doing anything else.
6. Test the patch and make your own judgement.
Any problems add it to Shanes Bug thread, give actual factual information not things like SP1 broke my Trainz...... The more actual info is posted there, the more likely something will get done or an explanation or way round the problem given. Instead of moaning at N3V, help them to get whatever problems there may be sorted out.
To revert to your original install delete the TS12 folder and rename TS12 backup to TS12 - simple and no damage done, everything is as it was no need to mess around reinstalling and patching from scratch.

Great recommendation.

One small thing to add. Make sure you have registered all your DLC addons serial numbers in your "Planet Auran Profile" before YOU START installing SP1...

Things like; Murchison 2, S&C, Loco pack, etc, serial numbers... That way your DLC re-downloads will start automatically once you have installed SP1 and started TS2012...

Cheers, Mac..

That's absolutely fine; quite a healthy attitude towards software updates of any kind. Both Zec's and my complaints were with the fact that you haven't actually tried the product, yet feel happy to spout incorrect information about the product on the forums. There's quite enough of that going around already. :)

kind regards,

chris

The "incorrect information" I am "spouting" was discovered from the well over 100 posts I have read on this forum with people complaining about problems that developed after they installed SP1.

I'm thinking that as well. People that do that usually get banned quickly.

P.S. WindWalkr does a good job as far as I'm concerned, especially when it comes to sorting out the bugs caused by the SP1 patch, and I do not like it when people attack him for no apparent reason.

I wonder how long it will be before there's one of those Hitler in the bunker raging on SP1 videos on youtube.

I decided to be a point man on this one. I don't have a lot of stuff yet so I figure I didn't have a lot to los. The patching went fine, I did a clean install on a brand new Trainz only SSD. I don't have a lot of payware, just one item of DLC and locos from various sites and Maria's Pass. MP was the only thing really sandbagged by the update, but HP has been on it and said they will be sending out the update in a couple of days. I've lodt a few favorite items that I can't get to work, but that's OK.

I do wish the developers gave a little more advance notice of this along with possible ramifications but as always, the troops in the field are always the last to know. Actually this is all a bit nostalgic, it brings me back to when TRS2006 was coming out, all the fighting and hand wringing, and the Great Purge when Auran pretty much blew up the old Forum. Fun times.

Good advice here in this thread. I would suggest that if you are undecided you might want to take a good look through the list of changes in the Announcement thread. If there isn't anything that you absolutely have to have right now then wait for a little while.
Creators are updating their stuff and fixing the things that were broken by SP1.
N3V is still evaluating what the patch to SP1 needs to have in it.
If you want to spend the time do what clam1952 suggested, it is more or less what I did and, with my install, I really did not see a lot of stuff I had to have right now so I went back to TS12 49922. (all that took two and a half days and a lot of bandwidth)

;)

Doesn't help when you have people who haven't even installed the patch and in a couple of cases haven't even got TS12, jumping on the bandwagon and informing everyone how bad it is. Personally I haven't found any problem with it worth making the amount of noise some are making.

I agree there's nothing unusual other than the usual post-patch blues with the little glitches and that which I'm sure will be sorted out soon enough. None of these things have prevented the simulation from working. I drove the Marias Pass X last night after I fixed my content. It was quite a ride and very enjoyable now that the distant fog isn't so blocky like it used to be. Today I received the official patch which I put in so I don't have to use the content I repaired.
