my 2010 will not work correctly

:'( :'( Most of the time when I work on my layout The system stops and I get a message stating Trainz has shut down. This happens most every time I try to do something .
another thing that happens is I'll place a building on the board and it disappers. I think this has something to do with "layers' what should I do?
also some of the routes that I want to merge with my basic plan seem to have track and highways running off the board into the "sky"
I haven't been able to transfer DLS items to the List
Is it trainz 2010 or my computer? I have a compact Presario CQ62 with windows 7 delux home edition.

Do you have the latest video drivers for your card? Are you running in Open GL or DirectX?

I'm not sure what I should be running. I assume the video card is the latest as i just aquired this laptop about a month ago.

This computer received less than enthusiastic reviews here.

A partial quote:

"We didn’t expect much in the way of gaming abilities (beyond low-impact Web games) from this machine, and unsurprisingly, we were right. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics chip in the Presario CQ62 delivered 1,901 on 3DMark06 at 1,024x768 resolution and an unplayable 18 frames per second at that resolution in one of our standard test games, Company of Heroes. In this laptop's defense, very few budget machines deliver impressive performance on these tests. With scores like these, you can expect this machine to render images fine and play video, but video editing, 3D gaming, and other graphics-intensive tasks should be reserved for better-equipped laptops."

Unless laptops are pretty much top of the line, Trainz won't run very well on them. Auran/N3V state they don't support laptops.

YMMV.

EDIT: The highest version I can get running on my year-old laptop is 2006 - and it is kind of shakey also.

Right now, in the aftermath of Christmas, there are some very good buys out there for desktop computers. With the addition of JUST a new video card, you could probably run 2010 well. It's a pain to have to do that, but there are other games that would run on it also.

Now that the Vista craze is over and computers come with Win7 (32 or 64) you'd have a pretty nice machine. I bought two machines at closeout (store closing at Circuit City) last year for a total of $430 and put two whiz-bang NVIDIA 1G Video cards in them (at only $32 each).

Hi doitall,

If you have two versions of Trainz on your computer you should have two separate shortcuts on your desktop. To create a shortcut for 2009 navigate to your TS2009\bin directory and look for the application "launcher.exe" right click on it and select 'send to' next window select 'desktop (create shortcut)' left click on it and a new shortcut will appear on your desktop. You should then have one shortcut for TS2009 and one for TS2010. Shortcuts always look for one particular program, the one they are pointing to.

Cheers,

For multiple versions of Trainz on the same computer the best thing to do is get rid of (delete) all the desktop icons. This will NOT delete the game, just the shortcut.

Then, go into the install directory of each game and RIGHT-click the 'Trainz.exe' file and choose "Send to...' 'Desktop (create shortcut). Once a new one appears, RIGHT-click the shortcut and Rename it to something descriptive that tell you which game it is.

Do that for each game.

your layers conflict

Every time that you place a building, it becomes part of the session layer. Nothing to be worried about. I wish I could help you out with the other problems, but unfortunately I am new to trainz as well. Happy new year

:hehe: For now I'll try to do my best with this pc.I think during next month I'll check out Tiger Direct and see what I can come up with I have a bunch of parts I could use. By the way will I be able to use the same 2010 on a new machine or will I have to buy a new one?
does any one know how well the Rail Simulator works on this lap top and does it have routes that cane be downloaded?
I had Eastern Kentucky on my old pc with TRS6 loved it.
What is a good way to hook routes together? I'd like to make one route from Chicago to Key West. What is the name of that FEC route ?

hey AMTRAKGUY

Hey Amtrakguy I rode 50 and 51 to DC last month they had the only amtrak dome car on the rear. it was great. I hear they are planning to put in on in the summer as a regular car.
From Lafayette In to DC it was only $62.00 each way.

I run TS2010 on my HP laptop without any problems whatsoever, even on routes than are gigantic. It has a 1gig video card and 4gb memory, plus the dual core is pretty good. It's more than a year old so I'm very happy.:)

If you properly update your video card driver and turn off ALL (well most)other processes you don't need, you should be running it alright.

I'd avoid Tiger Direct. They have a reputation for bait and switch tactics, and poor customer service. They have also gotten in trouble in the past with different consumer protection groups.

Try New Egg who has an excellent reputation and awesome prices.

I agree with John. I ordered two sticks of RAM (specific manufacturer - as shown in their ad) and received inferior off-brand memory. Took me a month for them to credit my card back.

I can vouch for Newegg. Quality stuff at reasonable prices. Excellent return policy and customer service as well.
