Moving to a new computer

Hi guys, starting tomarrow, I'm getting a new computer (I don't know what I'll get like a 2TB, 4GB RAM, a double or quad cord processor (at least 3.0Ghz+) and a powerful graphics card). But before I do that, is there any way to back up the ENTIRE TS2010 Database? I have a backup system, but I don't know what folder to aim at (ex. Program files/Trainz/TS2010/[blah blah blah]). I have both TRS2004 and TS2010 Running.

Any suggestions is fine.

Just back up the whole Auran folder under Program Files. I don't know about TRS2004, but TS2010 can be run from the folder without formally installing. Of course, if you do want to go through the installation process on the new computer, you can do so, patch, and then copy your old Auran folder over top of the new one.

Just copy the entire TS2010 folder. Then install trainz onto the new computer, like normal.
The place the copied TS2010 folder and let it overwrite the folder the installation just created. Presto the game will work, fully updated already and the database still intact.
I think it will work the same for TRS2004 as well but not sure.

You don't really need the registry entries. I think the S&C or Murchison2 installers use them but that's about it. If you're comfortable setting file associations yourself then you can set CMP to open CDP files by clicking on CDPs.

Ok, I just got a new computer (64-bit), and my old system is 32-bit. But same thing, move the ENTIRE TS2010 installation to the new computer?

Yep. You don't have to copy everything to, say, your Program Files (x86) directory though. You can just play where it lays, be it on the old drive you've attached as a spare, or whatever floats your boat. I do recommend putting Trainz on the fastest drive you have, so if you have a Raptor or SSD, consider putting it there.

Well, before i do that, I have another problem:

it's the display. How can I change this text style from this distorted text (see image A):

to this smooth text? (Image B):

Tried everything, and no help.

EDIT: NEVER MIND. I have used HDMI Cable making it cause the txt to go distorted. For now, I've using VGA Cable for the best results.

guys, thanks for u help. but now, I have another problem. I'm concirned about running trainz now. because my specs are NEARLY BREALY compatible with Trainz.

Here are my specs

Asus Desktop PC CM6730 Series
Intel i3 Dual-Quad Core 3.30 Ghz
4GB Ram
nVidia Geforce 8400 GS

Here's whats going on with the Trainz Diag (on Link:)

Any Idea why? and how can i fix it?

Regarding HDMI cable and distorted text, read your monitor manual.

There should be a menu option telling it to not do any processing of video signal (for PC applications) or something like that when getting signal via a digital input.

N.F.

You need to install up to date Nvidia drivers, looks like you are using the ones provided with windows which do not support openGL , OpenGL is required for Content Manager although the sim will run in DirectX.

That's a very old Graphics card for a new PC?

Well, I don't think it's old, but I think I've solved the OpenGL problem, apparently, I've got an offical update for the card from Windows Update, and I did not realize that it was NOT up to date even with the windows update, so I went to the offical card holders site, downloaded the updated driver, and ran the TrainzDiag again, and it passes everything including the OpenGL feature.

For new systems, I would advise updating the DirectX files (see my sticky in General Trainz), and if it's Windows Vista or 7 (Home Premium) making sure that you have Trainz set to run as administrator.

You will probably find my tutorial website useful for this, as it details a few potential issues you may come across, including the black texture issue.
