I have a lake in my map and was wondering how to add some moving ships, also i have a make shift port for scenery and would like container ships to come and go i have looked though the forum for info but havent found any.

Whecsailor also made many fine ships & fish's ... so you could build an underwater route, for when driving a submarine

Is it possible to make the Global Challenger container ship do this? Or do I have to grab a special drivable ship from the DLC?

If anyone knows of any good container ships ready for this 'track' movability I'd appreciate feedback, as I'd love to add a more realistic look to one of my huge ports.

Thanks.

If you download Cyberstorm's Drivable Superadaptor <kuid2:78193:950:1> from the DLS (tick the TR2004 box), you can make any object drivable. The readme file give full instructions as to how to use it.

Using teddytoot's advice of using Cyberstorm's Drivable Superadaptor <kuid2:78193:950:1> I have converted many static scenery ships large and small to drivable ships running on invisible track. The Global ships static models you are asking about are examples that I have converted to drivable locomotives using this method.

There is at least one container ship locomotive on the DLS <kuid:60238:9023> 'Container Ship'.

With CMP search the DLS and your installed assets with the filter Category = Locomotive and you will find a number of ships and boats already set up as locomotives to run on invisible track.

Author Vulcan (#60238) has large oil tanker and ore ships.

There is a good seaport map on the DLS called GB UK Cargo Area <kuid:227118:100250> which may interest you. Amongst the dependancies for this map are a number of static scenery ships which you could convert to drivable with Superadaptor. I also know that a couple of them are also available as drivable ships.

I forgot, he also did Drivable Ship <kuid2:78193:920:1> which has the track 7m below the surface and Drivable Barge <kuid2:78193:910:1> which has it 3m below which will fit in with other creators working models.

I will give you a tip about using invisible track for ships. To get the ship at the correct sea level, some of them have to be placed on invisible track at different depths below water level (eg -3 or -7 metres), some use track at water level, and some use track at 3 metres above the water. I use different colours of invisible track to indicate to me what level the track is at, to avoid ships that fly above the water or look like submarines.
You can also download junction levers which look like buoys in the water to be more realistic.

As you are using 2010 you can add the position tag to the mesh table to move the ship up or down to work with your track, which means you can mix vessels which operate at different levels, e.g.

position 0,0,-7 will make a ship designed for track 7m below water level float at the correct level for water level track.

@teddytoot

Thanks for the tip about using the position tag in the mesh table. I had forgotten about this method which could be used in 2010 to convert all ships to run on the same track level. All of my maps using ships were made by me when I was using 2006.
