I have been learning Trainz for almost 5 months now, and have purchased quite a few routes and sessions as well as downloaded quite a few freeware routes and sessions. I discovered one the other day that is the best of anything I have seen so far as far as realism. It is a session called "Goldsboro Local Sessions" and was created for the Wilson Mill Mt Olive Route by MGSsapper, who always creates fantastic routes. The downside to this route is that there are a large number of downloads that he has listed on the support session forum page, most of which are from Jointed Rail. As I was downloading file after file, many in packs, I was thinking to myself, what in the heck is the reason for all these assets, many of them rolling stock, and associated loads for the rolling stock. Well, when I started the session, I immediately saw why this was necessary, the consists that are in this route are the most realistic looking freight trains I have seen to date. Every kind of car, and load, many of them weathered just like in real life. When you first pull out of the yard, a 100 car freight goes by on the main line, that you have to wait for, and almost every car on it is different.
The session itself gives you instructions one after another, about dropping off cars, picking up cars, moving cars, at all the different industries along the route. There are passing AI trains that you have to get out of the way of, and everything works perfectly ( except some of the mistakes I made). The author of the session says it takes about a day to run the entire session and there is one that starts early in the morning, a day session, and another that starts late in the day and he calls that a night session. I have had this Mt Olive Route for awhile and is one of my favorite, but this session takes it to an entirely new level. If you like reality, and to feel like you are handling a real freight train in a realistic environment, this is a must have in my opinion. And it works perfectly in TS12
