ever since the Milwakee Road #261 came back to life the US has started to bring more steam back from its great sleep with the SP&S #700 and now the BIG BOY #4019 and N&W #611.... another steamer has just been given a second shot at life the C&O #1309 2-6-6-2 is set to make a come back to steam. how many more will come back... time will tell.

In the UK, something like 50 steam locomotives are undergoing restoration at the moment, including 4472 'Flying Scotsman'. Plus, many more are being built from scratch, including 2, yes 2, semi-streamlined LNER 'P2' Class 2-8-2s, a LMS 'Patriot class' 4-6-0, a GWR '4709' 2-8-0 and even a narrow gauge (2ft) Baldwin 2-4-2 tank engine!

There's also a 2-6-2 in the middle of coming back to life at the New Hope Valley Railway, Cliffside Railroad 110!
I hope it's coal fired, and not oil fired like the little tank engines

AT&SF 2-10-4 #5000 (prototype for AT&SF' 5000 class locomotives) A.K.A Madame Queen is to be up and running in the near future.
AT&SF 4-8-4 #2926 is making a comeback also within the next couple of years. They are rebuilding her from the ground up to give her another fighting chance at life.

CSX is actually going to let the WMSR move the C&O 1309?
A group in Florida is also just beginning on the restoration of Atlantic Coast Line Pacific-type 1504 that's currently on display next to the former railroad terminal in Jacksonville. They are first doing a cosmetic restoration, the second phase of their plan will be possibly restoring the locomotive to operation.
