More RAM for my Dell Desktop Computer

What type of Ram should I but for my Dell Dimension E051 it has 512 RAM now but I want at least a 1 Gig of Ram. It's a Windows XP too. Can I just by any 1 gig of RAM at Best Buy or do I have to order it?

Good thing it's XP, for if it was Vista OS, you would need 2 gig ram or more preferably...what about your video card, that really has an effect on framerates...input, here, anyone ?

Gee Diesel, go to any RAM manufactor's website and type in your PC model in the memory configuator. With Dell, I'm pretty sure you just can't plug in any chip...:o

Not sure if you got the model number right! Do you mean a E510 ???
Take the existing ram module out of your computer and the details should be on one side of the module. (don't forget to earth yourself before touching the ram module).
Off memory, if your Dell is a E510, then it will only take a maximum of 2gigs. (2 slots). Personally I'd recommend you go for the maximum. (eg; get 2x1 gigs & dump your existing 512megs)... Ram's come down sharply in price in recent times.
Trainz's will run better with 2gigs rather than 1536megs...
Cheers, Mac...

Yes I did E051 it says so on DirectX Diagnostic Tool. My graphics card is an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics card. Trust me I hate it. It makes the front view of the trains look like an old 80s game at times. And my sound card is SoundMAX Digital Audio, can someone provide me with some websites where I can get some decent computer equipment less than $100?

You will discover that you must install dual channel ram. 2GB = 2X1GB. You can get the ram from Kingston at a reasonable price. As to Computer equipment try Tiger Direct or Newegg. Both very good and inexpensive.
Hope this helps.

Crucial reckons you can drop in more than 2 gigs if its an E510 you should have 4 slots and you should be able to add in two 1 gig memory modules to bring it up to 2.5 gigs which is about the optimum for Trainz. It is dual channel so matching pairs of memory gives much better performance.

Run the crucial scanner to be certain. Buy the memory at newegg.com and buy the graphics card at the same time to save postage. Kingston memory is fine. ATI 4770 is www.tomshardware.com favourite at $100 this month.
