Modern Scale Models

Klinger

The Chicago CTA guy
Got a question for everyone. I currently store my two G Scale locomotives and rolling stock (except my wooden D&RGW Boxcar) outside in my garage

I have a Bachmann outside frame 2-8-0 and and old Bachmann 4-6-0 (painted to looking similar to RGS 20)

Its gets quite cold here, often below freezing, and sometimes well below 0

Is this wise? or would I be better off putting them inside, perhaps display them a Bit. I stuffed the stacks with plastic bags to keep dust out of the smoke units, but could the cold cause damage to my motive power. Not too worried about all my Bachmann cars, but is there any chance of damage to them too?

Anyway, just a thought I had

My 2-8-0, three 4-6-0s, and four LGB moguls are in a barn with electric heaters, which do not get used unless somebody's in the barn. They haven't suffered negatively in five years--I think you're safe.

Heck, I've run the stuff in the snow--if that isn't cold I don't know what is!

Get creative. Plan ahead like you would for a model layout, build a furntiure piece(s) that is designed to display the items when not used. Like a bookcase with shelves big enough to put them on. Mount track long enough on the shelf to hold the item it should. Then you just put them on the track-on-shelves when not in use. If you want, make some type of dustcover with wood sides and a plexiglass front.
Now you have one or more shelving units that:
1 - Store your items.
2 - Act as a decoration piece.
