Modeling LRV's trolleys in Gmax.

Hi, all.

I was wondering if it's even possible to update LRV's MBTA trolleys in Gmax? I like his trolleys, but I was wondering if I could make the opaque black windows into transparent windows, add random running numbers, different rollover / destination signs, add in chairs and stuff, and build a cab view for the trolleys?

Basically, give it a much needed improvement and update it. Its about 6 years old as he uploaded it in 2002.

Here's some of the KUID's of what I'm talking about:

32871:210
32871:100

Any modelers out there willing to lend me some advice or helping hands?

Yes it's quite possible to do all of the things your looking at , though success depends on your level of knowledge .

edit .... Matt was 1 of the good guys ;)

I was told by someone here the other day that I couldn't open trainz stuff in Gmax for editing or updating. Hence me needing clarification on this. I dunno if I have the skills or ability to build a LRV from scratch if I can't open the existing LRV cdp's in Gmax.

Hiya

Linky http://www.3dtransit.com/ .. the permissions on the top of the page covers the use of the meshes ... if you get these fixed please do the right thing .. credit Matt for the work and and contact him and let him know what you've done. Download only the .3ds files ( textures are included in the zip ) then use the import function in gmax and you'll be able to then save them out in gmax format and export to trainz once you've finished.

Bit of bonus there is this piece of sweet candy..

Best of luck

:)

Thanks so much, Scitimar!

Of course, I'd be more than happy to credit Matt for his original work. I appreciate your info, link, and stuff. I'm from Boston, so you can imagine I want to "Trainz" the Green Line trolleys. I have a few ideas how to improve upon Matt's designs:

1. Automatic running numbers (so 34xx, 35xx, 36xx, etc.)

2. Visible interior with seats and such.

3. Passenger enabled so you can see passengers riding inside the trolleys.

4. A better cab view that matches the real ones more closely, plus can see behind the cab into the inside of the trolleys like in real life.

5. Animated opening doors (the folding doors).

6. Different destination signs. B line to Boston College, C line to Clevland Circle, D line to Government Center, E line to Heath / Arborway, and fictional lettered lines (A, F, G, H, etc.)

7. Flashing green lights on the trolleys (particularly on the Type 7's and 8's) when the trolleys are stopped. I'm not sure if this is possible, though.

If there's anybody here who has experience with doing these things, I sure could use some tips, pointers, etc. I'm also open to cooperative work if anyone's interested.

Hiya again

Good ideas and may be interesting for others , also nice to see someone willing to learn and help themselves .

Hhmm .. At present ( 4-5 weeks ) I would'nt be of any use to you , waiting for the completion of our new home means spending time with good friends as guests and as such I've no real access to my own gear or net connection . Best suggestion I can give at the moment is maybe contact "Motorman1066" or "Silversmith" who may be able to help with the signs , and "Eldavo" who may help with the flashing lights . If no other offers and you don't mind the wait I'll help with the seats and door animation . I'll also try to find the fixed CLRV mesh I have and send a you PM.

Best

:)
