Missing Decoupler Command

Hi Trainzers,

I am running TS2009, and my problem is when I am in Surveyor, and I go into Edit Session, and select Driver Command, Edit and Tick (select) Decouple, along with any other Commands I require, and save the changes, but when I go back into Edit Session, Driver setup , Edit , each of the Commands except Decouple are displayed, yet when in Driver mode it appears, and can be used. Why doesn't it appear in Surveyor? How can I rectify the problem?

I appreciate that there are other uncoupling commands available, but with Decouple, I can specify a particular wagon by name (eg BR Mineral Wagon1) as opposed to Uncouplez #x. I prefer Decouple especially when I have RunRound a consist with a Steam Loco & Tender, I can then pick up the correct wagon to decouple.

Thanks in advance for any possible solutions

Cheers

It makes sense not to allow that command to be scheduled; the consist can change composition during the session, and the sim can't project into the future the way the user can; it's just not smart enough. But as a failsafe to prevent the train from uncoupling from a car to which it is not currently coupled, the Decouple command is disabled in Surveyor.

Thanks for your reply, but it is available in Surveyor, If your point is valid, then no Uncoupling Commands would be available in Surveyor. Are you suggesting that in order to use the Decouple Command, when I go into Driver Mode I must manually insert it every time?
I have used Decouple many times before when I have automated a train session, and I and but for some reason it will not work now. So my question still stands Why can I see it in Driver Command, but not use it in Driver Setup?

The default uncouple command was not available in surveyor edit session mode. That is the reason other decouple commands have been written so they can be used in surveyor edit session. Uncouplez and uncouplez from are the ones often used.

Scottbe8 and stagecoach,

Thanks for your replies, If Decouple is unavailable, then I'l have to find another solution, as the other decoulpe commands have their limitations. ( ie I believe Uncouplez is limited to 40 cars). Just out of curiosity what is/was the problem with Decouple and Surveyor?

Hi SD,

I faced the same issue you have right now. What I did was just bugger all with the built-in decouple and went with someone's suggestion, a "Decouple N2" command. It's in Russian but easy to use. Just remember the number points to the last car in your train before the break.

Cheerio,
Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,

I'll try the Decouple N2 command, The trouble with the numbering system, is that when you run round a consist, the numbers are reversed, it's ok for an even numbered consist, but when it has an odd number of wagon/carriages. it becomes trickier. That is why I prefer Decouple, as it uses the unique name/number combination for each wagon used in a session, eg a rake of 10 mineral wagons are named as they are created ie BR Mineral Wagon1, .......BR Mineral Wagon10
I can then use "Decouple BR Mineral Wagon5" and put the 5 wagons into another consist, and they will retain the name/number, whereas with any of the numbering systems the numbers change. if I attach the 5 wagons to another consist of say 6 BR Goods Wagons , the mineral wagons change from 1..5 to 7 ...12. Thats where it becomes very confusing.

Scottbe8 previously replied "It makes sense not to allow that command to be scheduled; the consist can change composition during the session, and the sim can't project into the future the way the user can; it's just not smart enough. Scottbe8, I cannot understand your logic, especially the last line. How can you uncouple something thats not coupled?
My contention is the sim can keep track of any wagon in a session regardless of where it is.
As the consist changes, the sim can handle It. My 2 test trains, when created in surveyor consists of BR Mineral Wagon1....10, and the second BR Goods Wagons1 ...BR Goods Wagons6 and when I go go into driver, becomes Consist1, BR Mineral Wagon1....10 and Consist2 BR Goods Wagons1 ...BR Goods Wagons6
when I Decouple 5 wagons the makeup becomes Consist1 BR Mineral Wagon6 .....BR Mineral Wagon10, and Consist 2 becomes BR Goods Wagons1 ...BR Goods Wagons6, Br Mineral Wagon1 ... BR Mineral wagon5.

Sorry for raving on about this, but I'm still not convinced why Decouple can't be written into Driver Commands in Surveyor, I equate writing Driver Commands to writing a macro in Excel or Open Office, You can insert any command, but until it is actived (in our instance, by going into Driver) nothing will happen!(or not) then you can Debug.

Hi SD,

As with alot of issues with Trainz, Decouple N2 is an awkward workaround to a silly problem. In TRS06 what one would do is just select Decouple > Name of Traincar. This is very simple, very fast, very straightforward, works in any direction.
I use Decouple N2 for one-off events - no runarounds or complex maneuvers. However even after a runaround you can still use the N2 rule, you just need to add a second instance of that rule, and count the number of train cars from the back. Obviously this means the consist has to be of precise and exact order and number otherwise you'll be cutting out cars you didn't intend to.

Hi SD,

Good to know: when counting the cars, start with the lead locomotive as #1.

For example this is what I want to do:
[1][2][3][4] <uncouple> [5]
^ loco

When using the rule, choose #4. If the loco runs around the train, then choose #2.
