MINIMUM REQUERIMENTS FOR TRAINZ 2012

Before you go off the deep end for a $200(US) graphics card, you should make certain that your computer can support a dual X16 slot video card and the necessary MOB power plug as well. Also, I am guessing that you will need at least a 600W PSU to support it.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help !!!

I have been checking the GT 430 recommended by Tomurban, (good card indeed) but the problem (?) is that this card has two slots, meanwile Geforce 9300 GE has only one.
In the nVidia web, I found GT 640 which has also one slot (I will ask for the price...)

I will see...hope I could update my graph card-

Best regards.

Toni

Unless I'm mistaken, they aren't talking about the card using two slots, they are tall and cover two slots. I've had a couple of cards that were quite tall.

Toni: The GT430 only requires a single X16 slot on the computer mother board. It is available in a low profile version which usually includes both high and low mounting brackets. I am not familiar with the GT 640, but I will look into it.

Do you mean one like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500273

If you look at the profile view, you will see that the cooling fan shroud makes the entire video card quite wide a bit wider than the bracket. Seems like a good card and superior to the GT430 which is probably being phased out.

I think you have to make sure your PC has a PCI 3.0 slot for that card. Not sure about this, so you should check into it.

Good point Robert. I know mine is PCI 2.0 and only 1.5 years old. It probably depends depends on the MOB and its support for PCI 3.0.

Just to clarify, no Graphics cards use two slots yet, some due to the size of the cooling fans / Heat sinks are double width and cover the adjacent slot, they don't actually fit in it just overhang it.

Hi my Trainz friends !!!!

I have just arrived from Germany, and i connected to read your replies. Thanks for it.

What do you think about a Geforce GT 520 1Gb and 4Gb RAM? The processor would be the same, Core 2 Quad @ 2,4 GHz...

Would be enough? Shall I expect a good game performance with this configuration?

Best regards.

Toni

I think there is more to it than memory. There is a GT 610 graphics card on Tigerdirect that has 2GB of VRAM, costs $29.99. The GTX 550Ti only has 1GB and that is $115.99. There is a huge difference in price there and that tells me something. I think you have to consider what type of RAM the graphics card has. The GT 610 has GDDR3 which is based off of DDR2. The GTX 550Ti has GDDR5 which is the fastest right now. Also, it has a higher core clock than the GT 610. I am not really sure what would be a better card though or what else to look at when buying a graphics card

Not very well. That's a very low-end card, as is the 610. The second number of both nVidia and ATI cards tells you the relative ranking of that card. Also, a 2.4GHz CPU isn't going to run Trainz that great and Core 2 is somewhat old technology. If you must go with that CPU, probably a good match would be a GT240, maybe a GT440. Any faster card than that probably won't help much if at all.

I actually have almost the same computer specs he has.. only difference is, I have 4GB of ram and an NVIDA 9600GT with 1GB VRAM.. This is a video from trainz 10 with a TON of 3D trees... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DRcRjYjL8g&feature=plcp

This one is from Trainz 12 with still the same config

Both videos are mine from the same computer...

I highly sugggest getting an NIVIDA 9800GT with 1GB VRAM... Does not call for much... Just a 400 Watt PSU..

Hi friends,

Enzo, many thanks for posting the videos. It have helped me a lot !!!
The game performs much better in your computer than mine. What processor do you have?
I have a Core 2 Quad (4 cores @ 2,4 GHz)
RRSignal, thanks also to you.
I am getting confused about graphic cards...do you mean that the second number of the card refers to its performance, and so means that the higher the better?
My motherboard is PCI express x16, so I think do not have too many cards to choose...

On the other hand, we are talking about a specifications that are so far better than the recommended by Trainz...:o:o

Greetings.

Tony

Very poor rating, don't think it would work well with Trainz

Not a really great card either compared to some other cards in it's catergory. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+9800+GTX&id=1320

Yes, the higher, the better. On the nVidia side of things, avoid cards with a '1' or '2' in the second digit. '3' is where you will just start to get acceptable performance. Cards with a '5' tend to represent a sweet spot between price and performance. I don't know as much about ATI cards, but I'd say avoid anything lower than '5' for Trainz.

You may not have to worry about your motherboard being PCIex16. Even if it's the old 1.1 standard, cards for PCIex16 2.0 will work in it. They are backwards-compatible. Most 2.0 cards aren't significantly faster unless you are looking at a high end video card. If you get a '5' or '6' you won't see a difference. However, 2.0 cards are NOT backwards compatible with 1.0 (at least, older than 1.0b).

Hello my Trainz friends,

Finally, I have updated my PC by adding 6Gb of RAM (I have 8 Gb right now) and I have installed a GTX 650 Ti graphics card.
The game is performing quite well. I have finished the tutorials and I am trying to make a consist for driving.

I wish to thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.

Best regards

Toni
