John (thanks to Craig cos I used mostly your shots!)

Where was this photo taken?.....

......at a miniature railway at Brighouse, which is between Bradford and Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. If you look on Google Earth for CAWCLIFFE ROAD, BRIGHOUSE, ENGLAND you can see the loop of track in RAVENSPRINGS PARK, surrounded by trees.

I presume that you are interested in the loco, there was several more in the shed, they were covered up, but the wheels looked European or American. We did not ask for access as I am sad to say this was not one of the most welcoming clubs I have visited. Perhaps we called on a bad day!

There is a selction of photos on the web, but I can't find their website at the moment.

Reason I was asking is because it is a BR 52 in Austrian livery, and I know of nobody who has made any BR 52 in that scale.

Today we went to the railway at Shibden Park on the outskirts of Halifax, (Yorkshire not Nova Scotia!)

Friendly people made up for the limited collection of rolling stock! One steam loco, one diesel and another diesel under construction.

The service train about to enter the tunnel/workshop/loco/carriage/shed!

Then emerges from the other end and is watered

If you are interested the dimensions of the tunnel are 12192 by 2428 by 2591mm or 40feet by 8 feet by 8feet 6 inches.Yes Ben it is made from containers!

And finally Craig took a picture of Mallard!

I live very near the Wabash, Frisco, and Pacific 12" gauge railroad in Missouri...I've been thinking about going out there and signing up as a worker there, as they've got 15-20 steamers, mostly from the early 1900s :D

Robbie, I don't think that I will ever get to your local railway, perhaps you would be kind enough to go and take some photos for us and post them on the thread. It would be kind of you if you could also find out if the locos were actually built around 1900 or are newer builds of locos of that period. It would also be good if you could tell us about the railway, such things as length of line etc

Many thanks in advance

John

ps. If you do decide to become a worker I can assure of good times, real life railway people can be fun to mix with!

They are actual early 1900s engines according to Live Steam magazine(which I read on and off). They've been running trains since 1939...and I've got a link to the article in Live Steam from their website if you wish to read it ;)

Wabash, Frisco, and Pacific History

The line is approximately a mile long, but they're in the midst of an extension to a mile and a half(I believe it's 1.5km at the moment, up to 2.5--my metric's a bit rusty). They have a 8 or 9 stall roundhouse, car shop, and provide rides to visitors every weekend. It runs from the terminus station to a wye on the other end, beside the Meramec River, with several short and medium length bridges. Mostly runs flat cars with seats on top or gondolas. Very nice line for a local club, and it's about a 20-minute drive from my house. It's a bit farther for you though....sorry :p

Thanks very much Robbie! How many railways like this do you have over there? We have quite a few over here, in Yorkshire you could probably get from one to the next in a 20 minute drive, and keep going for quite a long time. Most of them are fairly small, mainly just a large loop of one or two of the smaller gauges.

My favourite line, which is about an hour away is this one www.rsme.org.uk it is more of a large scale model railway, but does have some passenger riding vehicles. If you ever manage to get to the UK contact me, it is very handy for York, which I know a lot of your countrymen visit!

Model railway is all right...I'm into 1:20.3 narrow gauge modeling myself, have a plastic outside frame 2-8-0 I've converted into a slightly freelanced replica of the D&RGW's 360, along with a train of cars--building a track outside to run it on, but it's unfortunately too small to ride on. Yep, there are a few tracks over here like that, but most are smaller gauge and a large number of them only run trains provided by members, and own no actual equipment themselves.

I'm only 17 still...if I ever manage to get to England, it'll be some time from now, though I really would enjoy seeing that line in person, as it looks very well kept up!

Look at the whistles on this loco! Especially the big chime one!

The driver of this beast got off to "answer a call of nature", the loco stayed put for at least an hour. Is that an EWS logo on the side?

Is there any chance that there is a place in NJ that happens to run trains like this that you can go to for a day trip and ride around on them? This is cool
