Max speed of train is low

I have tried some of the solutions for this but Im still having a problem. Im using a King class (King Edward II) loco and I cannot get the max speed to go above 26mph. Ive tried setting the max-accel from 9000 to 40000, changing the max speed in the engine spec from 40 to 80, and even added in a rue in the game for the loco to have a max speed of 100 in the session. I have speedboards taking the track speed up to 60mph, but I still cannot get it to go above 26mph. So my question is - what have I missed?

Use the mc custom hud v2 in the driver session. It won't speed the loco up but you will be able to see what state the signals ahead are and what the present speed limit is and how far ahead the next speed limit is.
All these factors affect what speed the consist goes.
You may see a green signal aspect but the hud will see what the driver can see which may be a yellow.
I've just downloaded the engine+tender and placed it with 8 coaches on a route I run. After 1.5 miles the max line speed of 50 mph was reached.
It is now accelerating from a yellow aspect on a 2%+ gradient. Loco is fine.
Revert the loco to original and have a good look at your route because that's where the problem is.
