max polygons on freight wagon models?

Hi I know I've asked this question before on max polys but I need to know what would be the best max polygons to go for on a freight wagon now as most of us are using ts2009, 2010 and 12, I know on the older versions like utc, 04 and 06 the best reach was under 10,000 polys.
So what is now the highest goal of polygons to go for now?
Chears, Ian.

I would but I don't seem to be able to copy and paste an image on here. I want to open up mypictures to show you the wagon but for some reason it wants me to enter a URL link? how do you upload a picture on here and then I can show you my model?
The wagon I'm creating is the JIA-A imerys wagon

yes they are the ones :) thanks for your help on that least I can relax abit on building it.
If I was to reach 20,000 polys on this wagon would it effect trainz if i created like a long train of these wagons or would it be able to cope?

If you have a LOD on them, then there will be less effect, since the wagons further from the camera will have lower poly counts.

If you do not have LOD on them, then they will quite likely have a higher impact on performance. I would not recommend creating them with those sorts of poly counts without LOD, as it would be quite easy to have a large impact on performance with a large number of these in the scene.

If a wagon is repeated it has less impact than if you have many different wagons. The impression I have is that if you use lod you can get away with much higher poly counts.

The wiki has some information:
http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/Modeling_Guidelines

and no doubt in the fullness of time someone from N3V will add a bit more to the wiki since this is the second request.

Currently best practices says

"Typical Polygon Counts

TBD."

ok great I'll check it out as I'm nearly complete on my JIA now I recon I'll proberly reach around 11 to 12,000 anyways

Off topic, so I apologise, but I wonder if it has ever occurred to the likes of Dapol and Hornby that as they have gone to all the effort of creating these meshes to make their tooling, they could convert them into a Trainz mesh and flog them to the likes of us, thereby making a few extra quid?

Regards,

Anthony

Not really. The 'CAD' models used to create tooling would come out as 'multi-million' poly models in the majority of cases, as they are 'poly smoothed' (if you have enough flat surfaces, it will look smooth...).
