MARC GP40WH-2

I was using GMAX to texture the locomotive when the storm came through. Already check the autoback area and its blank. I saved the file just before the power outage but for some reason it appears to be corrupt

Just wondering, wouldn't it just be easier to do a Windows search on all *.3ds and *.max files?

I totally forgot about the .3ds file. Most of the details I have to redo but atleast I have this. So i'm good now. Just gotta re add some details and start the textures over. I found the original .3ds file and reimported it back into GMAX. Still pissed I have to this far back but atleast I have this.

Well, if it's Gmax, aren't the files *.gmax and *.obj? And the textures might still exist in some form. Just a thought.

Ok I've been working on the .3ds file and for some reason it has been scaled down for some reason. So thats no good either. Gotta start fresh which is ok just gonna take longer

Sorry to hear about your model. Looks real nice. Sure hope everything will turn out OK.

I stay down in Georgia. Very used to the weather, and my PCs middle name is "Crash".:( So I got used to putting everything on a Jump Drive or CDs at the end of the day.

I have tons of jump drives stacked up. But I no long loose files.

Good luck.;)

Its alive! After two weeks of re-doing the mesh I've finally completed it with serious details. At a total of 22,857 polys it definitely is testing my graphics card to the limit. That doesn't include the Bogeys since I have yet to do those. The fans are animated and the gyralight works I just haven't figured out how to turn the fuction off or on. Textures stilll aren't complete either

Does anyone here know if Auran restricts the amount of color you can use. I'm using a gray shade for the body and it comes up in surveyor as white. No matter how much I darken it the shade never changes.

Nevermind I've figured it out

It depends on what paint program you are using. I have gimp and Paint.NET. Trainz only supports 24-bit or higher skins. I have gimp just to edit pictures. Use Paint.NET (convieniently avaliable at www.paint.net [this is the actual link: http://www.getpaint.net/download.html]) to edit the skins because it lets you save as 24, 32, or it'll auto-detect the bit-depth. Trust me, all I do is reskin (and build routes) in Paint.net all the time. If you want to have skins show up, use it.

Thanks but I managed to figure it out. It was an error on my part lol. I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended!

If the texture is a .tga (as it usually should be) be sure that there is no RLE Compression.

Just in case this needs pointing out.

Lol nah i'm familiar with that. The problem I was having was the gray shade but i've figured it out.

Well if you are using GMAX, then once you input the texture, then

"apply the 'UVV Mapping' or 'Unwrap UVV' to it's shape."

OR if you are using Blender, then press Alt-Z

Ha. Yeah, sorry about that. It almost sounded like that was the problem there for a second. But then (coincidentally after I posted) I remembered that you've made plenty of fine signals without issue, so... yeah.

Anyway, glad you fixed the problem, and I must say that the locomotive looks absolutely beautiful in game... even without the textures.
