MARC GP40WH-2

Hi Klinger you speak about 130k polys? You know 130k polys are 130 000 polys? trainz dont have any models up to 70 000 polys that i know yet, because the exporter for max don't export nothing above this poly count and 130k polys model almost stop your frame rates. Sorry if im wrong.
The most detailed locos dont have more then 30k polys.

What is the max amount of polys trainz will support. If I can get more polys into this thing for detail then i'm going to add more stuff to the mesh itself

hI RZTAYLORRZR i don't have 100% accurate whit the knowledge of poly count trainz support in a single mesh but im sure i don't miss my calculation in 80% accurate, my shot is 60 000 to 70 000 polys because i try many times export in max some high poly models whit more then 70k and they don't export anything,... saying the fallow,.. to many faces & polys etc..... i know in a scene in trainz 2010 whit many models in a moderate computer 500k to 700k polys in total processing range they already lag and frame rates already are to low,
in my computer in max i can work in some architectural projects whit 1 000 000 poly to 5 million polys of course when is up to 3 000 000 polys already lag my computer to in max, but i use the 64 bites processor architecture dual core and max 2010 64b whit 4 giga Kingston ram dual band, and a barracuda sea-gate disk very quick disk, for that kind of work , i already have projects whit 3 million polys.
Sorry all this information maybe some of them don't have many importance for you, but your model and its a good model, can be 15000 polys if you want a very detailed model i guess you don't must pass the 25k polys.

I kept this model very basic considering somewhere I read the poly count had to be below 9,000. Now that I know I can get away with more polys im going for it.

It is ashame they got rid of the gp39h-2's and are currently in the works of getting rid of the gp40wh2s. The MP36's aren't bad but I prefer the older MARC locomotives

hi

Yes 9000 polys but you read that where? in manual 2006? all people they all based in this tuturials you forgoth trs2010 is very much powerfoul whit polys suport many more and process 3 times more then trs2006. is like make comparations whit a race car from the 60´s to a today race car.
And computers from today they aren't the same from 2006 to.

Yea its good to know I can go over that limit.

As far as this being released, who knows it may never get released. That's at my discretion whether I choose to share. Most stuff that I create I do share and release however; there are some things that I spend a lot of time on creating that I choose not to. Its not that my projects become vaporware, most things i've announced have been completed, I just choose not to release some of it.

That's understandable.

Wow, I didn't realize I was going to start a firestorm mentioning the "V" word. All I was saying is that it seems that a lot of projects seem to get REALLY close and fall apart at the very end. Sad, too, because I know that the creators have put A LOT of time and effort into their projects to have the wheels fall off at the end.

I've dabbled with Carrara, Bryce, and Maya years ago on a Mac, so I know that there is a lot of time involved just learning the software, much less creating quality models with it. And lets face it, sometimes life gets in the way, too.

Keep up the good work. I'd like to get some good MARC content. Of course, GOOD content takes time. By the way, Robert, this was the first time I've seen your site. I've been watching your work on TCR, but its nice to see it all together on your site.

Your quote wasn't the one that caused me to write that out. Being told my stuff looks like its hitting the garbage can does. I have no problem taking constructive criticism but someone saying this project looks like a project that will never get finished really sets me off.

I was wondering if anyone here knew of any sites where they help guide helpless souls in scripting. I need to script my Red Class lights and I don't even know where to begin on that. Any Idea on where to start?

P.s. Hi Rztaylor i forgot to warning you a detail, if you really intended your model runs very well in fps in trainz2004 & 2006 then whe must really to stays whit only 9k polys or above.

Im at 10,000 or so right now. The locomotive is intended for trainz 2010.

if you dont care about trs2004&2006 then go up for it and 15k to 25k for very detail loco is a good choise, im couriose of see the stage of your loco.:)

Well since you told me I could go above the the 9000 poly limit I've added new things. Animated fans and more detail to go with the locomotive. I'm currently trying to figure out how to operate and code the class lights. I've also added areas where auto running numbers will be placed. Since I now have an understanding of animation I'm going to try to complete a set of custom bogeys for it as well. The main textures looked like crap so i'm restarting that phase. Still have some modeling to be completed. Here are some pics so far

Very nice taylor,is going to be a nice mesh model but remember one thing a very good looking model have made by 35% of the mesh importance and 65% of the texture, you can have a very very good mesh (and i already see some in dls) and poor textures and the loco is a crap. Or you can have a poor mesh and very very good textures maybe com normal maps to, and a loco is a very good Loco, or....you have a good mesh and very gooood textures and bingo a super looking good loco, think about that, and i advice you to put and dedicate very much to, in making a good texture, bather than that is, search this loco and made photos of then and compose this photos in photoshop this is the bather they are for the reality of the loco.

I completely agree with that which is why i'm taking my time and honing in all the skills I can to complete this. As far as getting the textures themselves from a locomotive that could be possible.

Well im definitely pissed off now. A thunderstorm came through my town while I was working on my project. I saved it just before the power went out but now it refuses to load the file. Does anyone know how I can recover this file. If not I gotta restart

hhh

Is 3dstudio max????? is 2008 version or 2009?

go here and find the backup file the most recent file time
c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\3dsmax\autoback
the file names is usual autoback1,autoback2,autoback3,
you gonna find there at lest 3 backups if you always work whit this file lately
let always your 3dstudio max program well configured here to prevent this situations;;;
