MAP IS MISSING OR DAMAGED

Recently I downloaded a route. I know there are about half a dozen missing dependencies in it; locomotives and wagons. When I try to load or edit the route I get the message "MAP IS MISSING OR DAMAGED ...ETC".
Do I have to have every dependency for it to run? Or is there another solution that I am unaware of?

The usual reasons for that error are either the map is not for that version of Trainz, or it is open for edit/has too many missing dependencies.

Shane

EDIT: If it's in TS2010, it might be worth doing an extended database repair.

Even with missing dependencies, you should still be able to load the layout. With that message, the map files may be corrupt, so you might want to re-install it. ;)

EDIT: Oh, excuse me, shaneturner12. :o Regards.

Thanks to Shane and Retro00064 for your quick responses. The route was specifically for TRS2010, hence my surprise. Reluctant to download again because it is a big one. Previously I have had routes come up without all dependencies, indeed I think it is sometimes possible to see parts of them while they are still downloading.

OK - another two possibilities:

1.Make sure the route and session are actually appearing in Content Manager as well.
2.Make sure you are running the latest version (currently build 44088)

Shane

The route definitely does appear in the "installed" part of content manager. I am trying to download a specific session for the route but DLS is busy. Previously I was trying to edit route to put in other rolling stock.
I am running 42203, had trouble with updated version earlier. Would the version really affect it?

Answer to that is yes - it can affect it. Check which trainz-build version the map is, then post back (you may have to right-click the columns in the main list to be able to enable the required column)

Most grateful to you for solving the problem that I had. Downloaded the upgrade to 43434, installed it and restarted machine. I have only had a short time to try it but the route that I was having trouble with has come up and appears to be running well. Many thanks Shane.

It's OK - even I've been known to reply without reading other posts first.

Shane

Yeah, it is very easy for someone to post a reply of his own while you are still in the middle of writing your own! ;) :p  (Which is what happened here. ;))

Anyway, glad this turned out well. ;)

Regards.

I know what you mean - a possible forum-related suggestion? (Live preview of the thread)

Shane

An automatic live feed of the thread would be very difficult, if not impossible, to implement, as web browsers work by downloading a copy of the web page (in the case of these forums, the HTML code that the PHP forum software generates when the browser connects to it) and displaying it. The copy of the page that the browser displays is not updated until the user reloads the page.

A more probable possibility would be to include a script in the forum page that reloads the "Topic Review" section below the posting form whenever the user clicks a special "Refresh" button down there. eBay does this with their auction bid histories. The user can click on the special "Refresh" button on the bid history page for the auction, and both the time left display and the bid display are updated. It would just be a matter of whether forum users would implement such a function. ;) :p :hehe:

Regards.

Actually it is possible to do using a language called AJAX (which PHP does support) which forces the browser to not cache the page. (As they say, it's only a suggestion, which may or may not be feasible)

That might mean stopping the browser from saving a copy of the page in the Temporary Internet Files or something like that, but we are talking about automatically updating the page that the browser displays (which does not get updated until you reload the page), so therefore the script that checks the thread whenever you click on the special "Refresh button" is required for that function.

Actually, now that I think about it, in such a script you could eliminate the special "Refresh" button completely, and just have the script automatically check for and download the latest version of the thread. Why did I not think about that before? :o

Anyway, a scripted part of the page that controls what text it displays, and that updates itself automatically, is the only way that such an automatic function could be implemented.

Also, this would be something to tell the vBulletin company and developers about, as all that Auran did was just purchase the vBulletin forum software to use for the Trainz forums. ;)

Regards.

I'm currently reading the VBulletin site at the moment, so I will see whether the feature has been added or not to the latest version.
