Although the Internet has been around for 15 years, many people have still never purchased online. In this thread, please let us know your online shopping habits and your personal views regarding online purchases.

I am glad we have in common that you waste just as much time chasing me as I am making Tony look like an idiot.
Don't have to chase you....you just drop in...like pigeon droppings....and you're right...you are wasting your time making Tony look like an idiot....you need to spend more time trying not to be one...

rofl - it is quite entertaining I must say.

Oh, and Neuraldancer has confirmed via PM to me that he is who we thought he was.

I does not take much to work out who he is :hehe:

Just to add to this thread. I forgot to also tick that I have paid via Paypal (as well as Credit Card) many times too and have never had any problems. I also check my accounts on a regular basis too. This is not to say that there may be problems for some, but I have been doing this for some time.

At a guess I have paid for about AUD$1,500.00 over the years.

:):):)

Direct bank deposit or postal order are the only methods I will use on the net.
Usage is a fair amount as I buy most of my daughters incontinence products online, say about 4~$5k a year :'( as well as other stuff.

Cheers David

My method of choice is:

Online shop using other payment method - - DEBIT Visa/Master Card.
Works just like a CC.

That way it is debited to the account and no need to pay interest charges that the CC Companies charge.

Of course, you need to have the money in the account, but hey.

Have fun,
Ron

these days i like to use Paypal, that way company does not know or have my details they just get paid. I know that secure payments are 128 bit encrypted but all the same.

Suppose that i should have put down other as i pay bills via B-Pay.

Checked all the following:
Online shop using credit card
Used to but I have grown to hate credit cards, been in debt more times than I like and had a few problems where mysterious charges appear. Currently the only CC I have is a Debit Card and I will never use it online.

Online shop using Paypal
Prefer it since using it for eBay (though I have moved away from eBay since my account got hacked twice).

Email order form
Think I did this one, both send it by email and get email form that I print out and mail in.

Other online method
Probably did something that fits this.

Auran are the only company I buy from on line.
I also use my son-in-laws or partners card as I wont have one of my own. Don't trust them.

I've been using credit cards with Amazon and ABE books happily for years.

However I do have concerns about security so I much prefer sites that use Worldpay part of Royal Bank of Scotland to handle credit card numbers. They actually have an audit team audit the web site for known security problems. 1and1 eshops have acceptable security for credit cards but many other sites including ones that do their own code are vulnerable. I think the figure for American banks is something like 65% of their web sites have security problems, I can't see many of their online stores being much better. Handling credit card numbers safely is not easy. I make no comment on how safe the Auran site is other than its fairly small so would not present a particularly attractive target. I would be much more comfortable to see a Worldpay or 1and1 eshop logo on the site. It may have one and I just missed it. In general smaller companies do not have the resources available to build secure web sites and maintain their security.

I'm not saying that other companies do not have secure web sites but I happen to have been involved in setting up a web site estore so have been through the Worldpay and 1and1 eshop process and I'm familiar with it. Windows based servers are easier to keep secure. Yes some UNIX servers can be made secure but most of the ones I've seen have not been configured correctly or have venerabilities. Part of my background is computer security and making databases secure so I have some knowlege of the subject and how attacks are made.

PAYPAL is acceptable security wise and much safer than using a credit card on a web site that isn't quite so high on my trusted list but I'm not mad about the company.

I think I have something that is appropriate for this thread (Even if it isn't funny, you'll get the idea) :

Train Railroad Simulator 2009 (pre order): £20

RailDriver controls: £100

Watching Tony Hilliam put up another bizarre poll that attracts some bizarre posts on the TRS forums: Priceless!

There are some things money can't buy, for everything else, there's Mastercard.

Does help if I read these sentences first :)
Its amazing that some people don't get the hint that they are banned, do they? Why are they banned? Oh, don't know, lets make another account and get banned that way, I don't care then, because I can get banned on that account and create a new one.... I've noticed a worrying trend like that. Am I thinking that the good use of english (even if they aren't) and very argumentative issues is one who was banned about 3/4 months ago?

If so, why don't they ride out the ban? Its easier, its safer and its quicker. :)

In order to give some insight into my personal shopping habits, let me add the following to checking the above tick marks:

I still order a few things on-line, paying exclusively with either credit or debit card. Auran is one of the few on-line merchants that I will order from with complete confidence.

I've used PayPal in the past, but refuse to continue to do so, since I absolutely will NOT turn my bank account info over to anyone. Back when I could register my credit card number with PayPal and make purchases that way, I did so often.

In the past, I've sent credit card info via email to make purchases but will not continue to do so.

I will not phone my credit card info in to make a purchase.

These days, if no other option is available, I'll either mail a postal money order, or purchase elsewhere.

I purchase on line using my credit card , however , I am always hoping for an idenity theft , I only hope they also become liable for my debts ;) !
