Making a backup of my route

Hello everyone. I’m building a route and I want to make a back up of it just in case
something happens to the PC.

Can someone please tell me where I can find the route file so I can back it up?

Thanks for any help.

Craig.

Go into CMP and type its name in the Search box. Right-click it and Select Save to CDP.

If you haven't already done so, I recommend occasionally saving your route in Surveyor with a new name using Save As, perhaps adding a version number or date, as you work on the route in case something goes wrong or you spot an error or mistake later on.

In 2009 upwards the format has changed, assets routes etc are stored in hash folders and some files are compressed, bad idea to go there.
To backup your route, In content manager...... right click save to cdp, Ideally you should backup your user data folder otherwise you will end up downloading everything again if anything goes wrong.

Hi guys, thanks for your help.

Got more work to do on the route and then I'll probably put on the DLS early next year.

Good luck with your route building, Sam.

I would suggest getting an external drive, such as a Seagate GoFlex, and make a habit, or put it on a schedule, to backup your Auran/TS10/Userdata folder.
With this backup, you can reinstall Trainz again, should there be something that dies, and all you need to do is put this folder back in, and you'll have everything including all the data you downloaded, updated, and fixed, as well as your route and sessions.

This also works well too if you should upgrade your PC because all you do is install and patch, if necessary, then copy over your Userdata folder, overwriting any thing already there.

Morning John, backing up to an external hard drive is something I have been doing for years.

I just wanted to know how to back up the route I've been working on and where to find it if I needed to re-install TS2010.

Sorry to be fussy, but my name is Craig not Sam, that's my dogs name. (I'll send a ticket to the help desk to see if my name can be changed to Craig72).

A big thank you to everyone for their help.

Sorry, Craig. I went by your username. It looks like your name is changed to Craig now, which will solve that problem! :)

Very simply, back up your route to a CDP file.

In Content Manager, go to the tab called My Content.

You'll see your routes, consists, and sessions listed.

Sort by name to get everything alphanumeric.
Click on the route and press CTRL to select the session.

Right-click on these selected items, and choose Save to CDP...

Specify the path, and type the name. I give my stuff version numbers and a date. You can do whatever suits you.
Click OK and let the program do its thing. The bar will move across. I like to view details so I can see that everything was saved to the CDP properly.

When this is done, you can then copy the backed up route files to your backup drive.

Hope this helps.

Hi John. All backed up to my external hard drive safe & sound.

I sent a ticket to the help desk yesterday morning (UK time) and was surprised to get a reply within a few hours as I thought it was night in Oz.

Thanks again for your help.

Craig.
