Main Differences between 2009 and 2010?

Hi,

Every time that I get an email from Auran, it makes me wonder...

1. Why did I buy Trainz Simulator 2009: World Builder Edition (instead of just wait for whatever their next version would be) and

2. Where can I find a showdown between Trainz 2009 WBE and Trainz Simulator 2010: Engineers Edition.

Where can I find the big differences between the two products?

For the life of me I can't recall even hearing about TS2010 when I made the purchase of TS2009 (then again, I can't even remember when I actually purchased TS2009), Im sure I would have waited for TS2010 (since I Love trains, but I'm not what one would consider being so in love with Trainz that I have to have every version ever produced), but that's my own problem for not fully investigating as I normally would have with almost any other game that I was considering purchasing.

Perhaps Auran had such a pursuasive advertisement for TS2009 that I couldn't pass it up. Who knows, doesn't really matter other than now when considering TS2010, it's going to need to be something huge and substantial that I will get to sink my teeth into that is not / was not in TS2009 as I'm kind of at the point where just owning TS2006, TS2009 makes me feel I'm going down one of those gaming paths, where perhaps I'm not astute enough to really see all the great differences that other people obviously all see.

Anyway, this message is already too long...

Where can I find a comparison list between TS2010 and TS2009 so that I can take a look and see this time if it's worth pulling the trigger and making the purchase.

Thanks,

This question pretty much answers itself. With almost any product, you can either buy the current one or wait for the next one.

2. Where can I find a showdown between Trainz 2009 WBE and Trainz Simulator 2010: Engineers Edition.

The bullet points for TS2010 are listed on the product web site.

kind regards,

Ts2009 website has a very good comparison chart covering SP3 through TS2009.
I think it should be extended to include the TS2010 features and put up on the TS2010 website.

The main difference is that you lost $50 in an ''all new'' already obsolete version of TRS(as I did). It has only some new feature. You paid and get a few, a kind of unfinished game.

TRS 2010 is the complete version that has all 2009 features + some new fetures+ alot of new routes. You pay and get alot more.

When you bought TS2009 WBE the companion was going to be TS2009 Engineers Edition which was intended to supply more built-in routes but was not going to include Surveyor. It would load over TS2009WBE to make a complete package. It was going to be a paid version. As it turned out Auran called that version TS2010EE and included Surveyor so for the same money we got a full version with added technology.

I understand that there will be service packs for TS2009 but I doubt whether they will include layers and Speedtrees.

The Main reason people bought TRS 2009 WBE was because

a) TRS 2009 EE (Now TS 2010) Wasn't going to include surveyor

b)TRS 2009 EE (Now TS 2010) Was going to be an addon to TRS 2009 not a stand alone product (Although yes it can be added on to TRS 2009)

c)Wanted something better then TRS 2006 (which seems outdated IMO) and Trainz Classic(which lacked the built-in dependencies needed for most non TC content)

Well, I recently bought the Trainz Simulator 2 pack edition (2009 and 2010). I like how both programs are run, but I prefer TS2009. I only paid $9.99!

TS2010 has the Speedtreez included, 09 doesn't, which for me personally is the main reason I play with it, the 3rd party Payware folks have released lots of recent content that is for TS2009 and above meaning that anyone can purchase it with a modern version of the game and enjoy their stuff. I have millions of assets right back from 2004 that I can play with without warnings and errors that you'd have to repair if you install it into TS10. There is also still content being released for TRS2004/6 etc on the DLS that runs error free in TS09, but, with TS10, you need to put in a lot of man hours repairing stuff that now gets caught in the net.
Do you have the patience to sit and repair assets all night long and have Speedtreez included on EVERY layout you install, or, not, the choice is yours.

Happy Trainzing.

Ever tried it in TS12, I don't know about man hours, man weeks may be. Why no compatibility with content across all game formats?

Because N3V don't want the community to have compatability for a couple of reasons.
I would agree that content released from say 2003-5 doesn't appear graphically aesthetic as recent offerings as we've moved on with technology, we're all into DX11, and 2 GB graphics cards, etc, nowadays, which renders very old stuff as totally outdated, which has been a fair argument for the last 12 months, or, so. However, unfortunately, much of the content on the DLS hasn't been replaced with newer assets, so, we're left having to utilise such material even on today's layouts created by the community, ergo, many routes appear old, but, until such time that creators/developers upgrade content, which isn't likely to happen soon, then we're stuck with what we have.
The other main reason is that N3V spent all their money on the Speedtreez licence and must include it in newer versions of the game to make it financially viable, which if course invalidates any old terrain feature such as 3rd party trees and grasses on our routes which we've obtained from other sources over the years, which for me personally I'd rather play with than what N3V can offer.
