MacOS 26 without Sound in Trainz 22

I have the same issue, I am now on MacOS26 Beta 1 developer and still not fixed.
Currently running MacOS 26 without any sound issues on a 2019 MacPro Intel Xeon W w/AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo and 288GB. Intel vs. Apple M2 and M3 chips possibly the problem?

So, is this being worked on by N3V or not?! I am paying for a subscription I cant enjoy. Can we get a damn update at least? Its clearly broken in Tahoe.
I understand not upgrading and all that, but some of us had the update installed even with Upgrades turned off (Known 15.7 bug).

Updated to MacOS 26.0.1, still no sound in TRS22.

That’s becuase the engine sounds, horn, bell have no sound plus the menu, but the Rain sounds and environment is fine and working. It would maybe come in a Hotfix update like it was released with the SP5 Hotfix

I doubt there will be a hotfix. This will probably be rolled into the next full update which is in beta right now.

To be sure, do you have train sounds outside the cab? I noticed that even in the PC version they are extremely soft while in the cab compared to other versions including the last one while outside the cab they're normal.

No, I only get rain sounds as well as the others. Nothing else, in or out of the train. I already rolled back the OS from my Time Machine backup, and all sounds came back.

No I have no sound from locomotives neither horn and bell. But the lever sounds in the locomotive work when moving throttle and FWD and REV gear and environment sounds. Becuase I’m using a Mac

It's an OS issue as you've pointed out. N3V is aware of the issue as you were told and in order to repair this, it'll take development, i.e. a fix, and some testing prior to release given the level that this is.

🔧 Workarounds you can try

Here are several steps you might try to restore sound while waiting for an official fix:

  1. Check macOS audio output device
    • Ensure that your Mac’s audio output device (System Settings → Sound) is correctly set (e.g., internal speakers, external headphones).
    • Switch output devices (even if it seems correct) — e.g., try Bluetooth headphones or a different port and switch back.
    • Close Trainz, change output device, open Trainz and check sound.
  2. Disable FileVault (as attempted by some users)
    • If you’re comfortable doing so, you might disable FileVault (System Settings → Privacy & Security → FileVault: Turn Off) and restart your Mac. @samsara66 reported that fixed sound for them.
    • Caveat: This may reduce your disk encryption / security. And for some users it did not fix the issue — so it’s not a guaranteed fix.
  3. Reinstall or update Trainz
    • Ensure you have the latest version of the game (via Steam/App Store) since sometimes macOS compatibility patches are pushed silently.
    • Try a clean reinstall: uninstall the game, delete its audio/cache config files (if you can locate them) then reinstall.
  4. Roll back macOS if feasible
    • If sound is critical and you can’t wait for a patch, consider rolling back (or restoring from a Time Machine backup) to macOS 25 or earlier — at least until an official fix is released.
    • Note: Rolling back may affect other apps or dependencies; do so carefully.
  5. Submit a support ticket / check developer forums
    • Report the issue to the game’s developer/support (include your Mac model, OS version, steps you’ve tried).

How much you want to bet nobody will say why it didn't work and what they did to fix it?
This was caused by an upgrade to a new MacOS version. Trainz wasn't the only program that was affected by this update. A friend of mine ran into issues with some music editing software he uses.

Thank you for clarifying.
The interesting thing for me, a similar issue happened with Windows 11 24H2 when it came out long ago, and sound software Voicemod. Totally unrelated and nothing to do with Trainz. But, the way sound is handled by the newer operating system and that software was bugged, too. That makes me have more patience and test things out, see what others are doing with upgrades.

I remember reading about that. Windows 24H2 gave many people angst with a lot of programs. The biggest issues that people found were performance related with programs, especially games, not performing well after that "upgrade".

I noticed the correlation here between the MacOS upgrade and I mentioned it, but people blamed N3V for the problem. It so happened that the MacOS upgrade came out at the same time.

I agree it's best to wait when we can, but unfortunately the operating system developers push out patches without giving people to wait unless they go through great hoops to do so. Most people, meaning the general public computer users, have no clue on how to do that anyway and are the victims of updates and bugs that go with them.
